ANF – Brussels 16.04.2014 – Representatives of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) are having talks prior to the session to take place at the European Parliament to handle “the situation of the people in Syria left without any defense” on Thursday.

PYD Party Assembly member and European representative Abdulselam Mustafa, accompanied by BDP’s (Peace and Democracy Party) EU and EC representatives, started talks with parliamentarians on Tuesday to provide information regarding the general situation and the position of Kurds in Rojava and Syria . Abdulselam Mustafa and BDP’s representative for the European Council, Fayık Yağızay, primarily held talks with a number of  parliamentarians taking care of the Syria file at the European Parliament and concerned about the Kurdish people’s demand for freedom. The Left Group of the European Parliament also invited the PYD and BDP representatives to their group meeting yesterday evening.

Holding the opening speech of the meeting, EP Left group president Gaby Zimmer called attention to the importance of learning about the ongoing war  and the position of the PYD in Rojava and Syria, and the position of Kurds in relation with the urgent debate agenda to be handled at the European Parliament tomorrow.  Speaking after, PYD European Representative Mustafa stressed that the Rojava territory is not only facing armed attacks from military forces and foreign-supported Salafi gangs hostile to democracy, but also being subjected to an economic embargo by the powers surrounding Rojava including the Assad regime.

The PYD representative pointed out that the democratic autonomous administration established in cantons in Rojava adopted a policy that guarantees all rights for not only Kurds but also all peoples of different religious and ethnic groups including Christians, Alevis, Arabs, Syriacs, Armenian and Circassians.
