PKK Applies Charges on Kolbars in Halabja

Yassin Hassan – 29/01/2018 – 16:00 – BasNews – According to a parliament member from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a group of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have recently stationed some check points to collect customs fees and taxes from porters (Kolbars) in Halabja and Hawraman, cities in Kurdistan Region.
Qadr Razgay, head of parliamentary committee for internal affairs, and a leading member of the PUK told BasNews that he has been informed of PKK’s recent activities in Halabja and Hawraman where they charge porters who import products from Iran or vice versa. “This action of the party is not legal since it is not a recognized ruling party in the region” he added.
Meanwhile, Fazil Basharati, a leading member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and head of a KDP branch in Halabja confirmed to BasNews that PKK has based some check points in the area to charge the porters. Basharati also revealed that the officials of the area have told the citizens to urge the PKK to not charge the porters since they do this job due to poverty, but the party has so far ignored the requests and carry on taking 10 thousand IQD from each porter. www.mesop.de
