Nourschiwvan’s Change Movement opposes Kurdistan Region energy deal with Turkey

30-11-2013 – MESOP – Kurdistan Region’s main opposition Change Movement opposed the energy deal inked between the Iraq self- ruling enclave with Turkey.

Speaking with Iraq Media Channel, Change External Relations’ Chief, Muhammad Taufiq Rahim said the movement is against the deal if it allows Erbil to send oil to Turkey without Baghdad’s accord.

The official said the movement will take stance if the next government would be serious in sending oil to Turkey without Baghdad’s permission. According to a Reuters report on Friday, Kurdistan Region inked a number of deals with Turkey, including building a new oil and gas line and exploring and drilling oil in the region. The report said the deal was made in a Wednesday meeting between Kurdistan Region Premier Nechirvan Barzani and his Turkey counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
