The U.S.-led coalition’s recent offensive in Iraq’s Sinjar Mountain, supported by Kurdish Peshmerga forces, represents a much-needed tactical victory against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The successful combination of Operation Inherent Resolve’s precision airstrikes, intelligence, and advise-and-assist support to over 7,500 Kurdish and Yezidi forces from Iraq, Turkey, and Syria effectively expelled ISIL from Sinjar and allowed Kurds to seize parts of the strategically important Highway 47 between Mosul and Raqqah — a supply and transportation route to Syria that ISIL depended upon. ISIL territorial losses in Ninewah have also helped facilitate the gradual return of persecuted local populations, including the Yezidis, to their homes. Erdogan gobbles up power in new Turkish government

26 Nov 2015 – Al Monitor – I was waiting for the announcement of the new Turkish Cabinet on Nov. 24 when a Russian fighter jet was shot down by a Turkish F-16 on the border between Turkey and Syria. The magnitude of the international crisis that the incident may generate is still too early to predict. Hearing an angry Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said Russia was “stabbed in the back by those who abetted the terrorists” and accused Turkey of aiding the Islamic State (IS) in transporting and selling its oil, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov canceling his visit to Ankara and calling on Russians not to go to Turkey, it is not hard to predict the days ahead could hold very serious developments.The announcement of the anxiously awaited new Turkish Cabinet revealed the identity of the government that has been much debated. MESOP : GREETINGS FROM PUTIN WITH LOVE ! – Iraq Closes Airspace in Kurdish North for Russian Missiles

By Sharon Behn – 2015-11-26 – MENAFM:COM – Iraq has shut down two airports in the northern Kurdish region of the country in anticipation of Russian cruise missiles crossing Iraqi airspace to hit multiple targets in neighboring Syria.

The Irbil and Suleymania airports closed down Monday for 48 hours. As a result all commercial airlines have suspended operations to the Kurdish regional airports “until the integrity of the airspace” can be confirmed according to a statement released by the Irbil International Airport. Angeblich holt Wladimir Putin jetzt zum Gegenangriff aus – wenn die Angaben stimmen, kamen dadurch 10 Menschen ums Leben.Nach dem Abschuss eines russischen Kampfjets schlägt Wladimir Putin offenbar zurück. Im syrischen Grenzgebiet nahe der Region Kilis wurde ein Konvoi mehrerer türkischer Lastwagen beschossen, meldet die türkische Zeitung „Daily Sabah“. Am vorvergangenen Freitag fand in Paris der entsetzliche Angriff statt, durchgeführt von Islamisten, die uns höhnisch wissen ließen: »Ihr liebt das Leben, wir lieben den Tod.«

Es war das bisher brutalste islamistische Massaker auf europäischem Boden. Es richtete sich gegen alle, die das Leben an einem Freitagabend zu genießen suchten, gegen Musikfans, gegen Fußballfans, gegen Bar- und Restaurantbesucher. Hinter dem scheinbar so Sinnlosen steckt ein klares Konzept, das Ayman al-Zawahiri, der Führer von al-Qaida, so umschrieb: »Selbstmordattentate bringen dem Feind das größtmögliche Grauen bei relativ geringen Verlusten für die islamistische Bewegung.« Am besten seien Anschläge, die möglichst viele Zivilisten töten: »Das verbreitet bei den Völkern des Westens den größten Schrecken. Das ist die Sprache, die sie verstehen.«

In der Tat. Auch zwei Wochen nach dem Massaker dominieren Angst und Entsetzen den Alltag, und Angst steckt an. Im Land der Freiheit herrscht der Ausnahmezustand, Demonstrationen werden verboten, es überwiegt die Einschüchterung. Haben die Attentäter gesiegt?

Kurz vor dem 13. November hatte es bereits einen Angriff auf das französische savoir vivre gegeben – es war zwar nur ein Vorstoß, jedoch von symbolischem Gewicht. Ab dem 14. November wollte Irans Präsident Hassan Rohani die Französische Republik und deren Präsidenten besuchen. Ausgerechnet Rohani, ausgerechnet Frankreich! Er sagte den geplanten Staatsbesuch nach dem Blutbad von Paris wieder ab. Schon während der Vorbereitung des Treffens hatte es einen protokollarischen Streit gegeben: Rohani hatte zum Entsetzen seiner Gastgeber erklärt, dass er in Paris an keinem Festbankett teilnehme, bei dem auch nur ein einziges Glas Wein getrunken werde. Konkurrenz zwischen YPG und Peschmerga / Peschmerga Führer wütend auf PKK Milizen

Am Morgen des 12. November seien die PKK und ihre Verbündeten aus dem Norden und Westen eine Stunde vor Barzanis Peschmerga nach Sindschar eingerückt, behauptet der grauhaarige Sengal, der einst in Deutschland für die hierzulande verbotene Organisation neue Mitglieder rekrutierte. Mit den Offizieren der irakischen Kurden sei die Offensive auf die Stadt nicht koordiniert gewesen, sagt Sengal. Man habe vielmehr eigene Interessen verfolgt. Bereits in den vergangenen Monaten war es den YPG schließlich gelungen, in den syrischen Orten westlich des Sindschar-Gebirges den „Islamischen Staat“ zurückzudrängen; die Provinz Hassakeh etwa und Gemeinden nördlich der IS-Hochburg Deir al Zor stünden nun ganz unter der Kontrolle des syrischen PKK-Ablegers.
