Terrible news from northern Iraq, asinkhole with many bodies was found. Rudaw reports “a sinkhole reportedly containing almost 1,000 bodies, including around 30 Yezidis, killed by the Islamic State (ISIS) from mid-2014 to late 2017 has been uncovered in northern Iraq’s Tal Afar region of Nineveh, a local official confirmed on Wednesday.”
ISIS took over this area in the summer of 2014 and committed genocide and ethnic cleansing against minorities. ISIS was driven back in 2016 and 2017 from these areas. “The pit contains at least 1,000 bodies. They [ISIS] had even dumped victims into the mass grave while they were still alive,” Tal Afar Mayor Qasim Mohammed told Rudaw.
THE HORROR involves a pit that is 150 meters deep and contains many Shi’ites from Tel Afar. Shi’ites fled the ISISinvasion in June 2014, some fleeing through Sinjar and other areas. It was a prelude of the genocide of Yazidis in August, much like the Nazi crimes began in the 1930s.
There are up to 3,000 missing Yazidis. Other sinkholes with my ISIS bodies have been found, some of the up to 300 mass graves in Syria and Iraq. A Canadian team began excavating mass graves of Yazidis in recent years. Estimates that between 2,000 and 5,500 Yazidi have been killed by ISIS since 2014. See more details.
