PKK, Shi’ite, Sunni Arabs Form Parallel Administrative Body in Sinjar

BasNews  28 Dec 2018 – ERBIL – Representatives from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Shi’ite, and Sunni Arabs have agreed to establish a parallel body in the Yezidi majority populated region of Sinjar to administer the area, a report said on Thursday.

“Hashd al-Shaabi commanders, PKK, and representatives of Shi’ite and Sunni Arabs of Sinjar met today and formed a committee to administer the district,” Fahad al-Hamid Omar, the acting mayor of Sinjar, told Kurdistan 24. “The first step of this committee would be to appoint a new mayor for Sinjar and all its sub-districts,” he added. Omar was appointed by Baghdad in 2017 after the Iraqi forces entered the disputed Kurdish territories in a military incursion in retaliation to an independence referendum held in the Kurdistan Region.

However, it was opposed by the head of the Yezidi Democratic Party, Haider Shasho, arguing that this is not serving the people of the area.

“We disagree with the formation of this committee,” Shasho told the report. More via www.mesop.de
