MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : THE MOSUL DROWNING – IRAQ

SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ) Bridges that were just rebuilt are destroyed in floods in Mosul

by Seth Frantzman 18 Mar 2019  – Mosul suffered greatly in the battle to liberate the city from ISIS. Reconstruction has been slow. Repairing the bridges was essential to helping the city. However major rains in mid-March have now damaged the bridges.

The UN and other agencies had helped pay to rebuild the bridges. But it appears that whoever built them had not built them to withstand the flooding.

Most of the bridges are believed to be #UNDP-funded, implemented by the local companies. https://t.co/i01CpK61pe

Some of the bridges had been inaugurated recently or re-opened according to reports

One bridge partially collapsed, only a few days after it was inaugurated

This bridge is still awaiting the red ribbon to be cut…

The bridge is fully fixed. It’s not open yet. They must bring a big head to inaugurate with his auspicious attendance. Same applies to many other projects in here. pic.twitter.com/IpPWJxS70e
