BasNews 05/09/2019 – 20:32 Published in Kurdistan – ERBIL – 6 Sept2019 – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has made it clear that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) should take the interests of the autonomous region and its people into consideration.
“The Kurdistan Region has strong ties with Turkey and Iran on diplomatic, economic, and political levels,” Safeen Dizayee, head of the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations, said in an interview with Kurdistan 24.
“The PKK needs to take into account the political situation of the KRG and not take steps that might negatively affect the region and its people.”
The PKK is designated as a “terrorist organization” by Turkey and there is a decades-long military confrontation between the two sides over the Kurdish question in the country.
Turkey regularly carries out airstrikes in the Kurdistan Region border areas, allegedly targeting the positions of the PKK in the region, as a result of which, around 400 villages have so far been evacuated. The KRG has repeatedly urged the PKK not to use the Kurdistan Region territory as a battlefield for attacking the neighboring countries.
