For a time, #ISIS was a complex, multifaceted movement, not just the global terror phenomenon it’s seen as today. Today, the latest news “revelation” is that there are former #ISIS fighters in the SNA. No sh*t. They’re also in the #SDF – but that’s too complex, I suppose. 3/3

Fast forward to 2016-19: as #ISIS came under pressure & its localism & anti-#Assad positions dissolved, many of those same opportunists seeped away. Some went home; some rejoined “the revolution”; & others flipped & joined the #SDF — all 3 paths are established facts. 2/3
