PUK Security Shuts Down Bookstore in Sulaymaniyah for PKK Publications
Basnews English 10/01/2019 – 13:51 ERBIL — The security forces affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) closed down a bookstore on Wednesday in Sulaymaniyah. According to the information obtained by BasNews, Ghazalnoos bookstore was stormed by the security forces on Wednesday morning before it was ordered to close down.A day earlier, the PUK security forces also shot down Salim Cinema for scheduling a film about a PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader for screening.
The closure of Ghazalnoos bookstore is believed to be another attempt by the PUK to limit PKK’s political and cultural activities in the areas mainly under PUK’s control.
The crackdown comes as the PUK is reportedly working to revive its ties with Turkey which has designated PKK as a “terrorist organization”.
The party has already banned the political and cultural activities by Tevgeri Azadi in Sulaymaniyah, an offspring of the PKK in Kurdistan Region.
