ERBIL — A militia group has abducted over 25 Kurdish civilians from central and surrounding villages of Afrin in northwest of Syria.
A human rights watchdog in Afrin revealed on Sunday that the militiamen of Sileman Sha group on Friday kidnapped seven people in Shie district of Afrin, accusing them of links to the People’s Protection Units (YPG).
A day earlier, according to the monitoring group, the militiamen raided Alkana and Khalik Gulko villages near Afrin. They kidnapped at least 22 people, as reported by Kurdistan 24.
The militiamen are now asking for $20,000 in ransom to free each abductee.
The Kurdish city of Afrin was overran by the Turkish army and Ankara-backed Islamist rebels in early 2018. It is now under the control of the Islamist groups who are accused of widespread human rights violations against the Kurdish population.
