MESOPOTAMIA NEWS (II) – THE IRAQI ELECTION RESULTS

Tamer El-Ghobashy‏Verified account @TamerELG  13 May 2018 – Iraq’s electoral commission says 44.5% of eligible voters participated in national elections today — a steep decline from 2014 and 2010 when it was 62%. From what I saw and heard today in the street, it was more deliberate boycotting vs lack of interest. An interesting turn.

It’s likely PUK committed fraud. It’s also likely they have done poorly because their base didn’t turn up to vote. Low turnouts serve PUK&KDP the best, because their supporters always show up to voting.

Anti-Fraud Camp presser: We reject the entire election results. We call for new elections in Kurdistan and disputed areas. We hold PUK responsible for the attack on Gorran HQs. It targeted the room where the leaders were meeting. It was an assassination attempt.
