STATEMENT OF PKK’S WOMENS ORGANISATION  – 4. April 2019 –  YPJ: Ocalan’s birth is birth of free women

The General Command of the Women’s Protection Unit (YPJ) congratulated the seventh anniversary of the founding of the units and the birth of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan. It confirmed that the birth of Ocalan marks the beginning of a new stage for the peoples of the Middle East. And that his birth is the birth of the free woman.

The Women’s Protection Units were established on April 4, 2013 after one year of launching Rojava Revolution in 2012. The text of the statement:

“We congratulate the Kurdish people, humanity, women and struggling mothers on the birthday of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the seventh anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Protection Unit which were founded on April 4, 2013. With the person of the martyrs of Slava, Berivan, Jinda and Arin, we commemorate all the martyrs of the revolution and salute the resistance of the hunger strikers who lead a historic stage today.

April 4 for the Kurdish people and especially the Kurdish women is a social, cultural and intellectual birth, and the birth of a free life. The birth of the leader is a social birth more than a physical birth. With the birth of the leader Ocalan, the peoples were born again. The leader’s birth in the Middle East was the beginning of a new life, a new philosophy and a new thought for the peoples. Today, the ideology and philosophy of the leader Abdullah Ocalan embodied in the democratic nation has become a source of faith and hope and a title of a free and equal life for the world.

We, as Women’s Protection Units, have decided on this historic day to establish a protection force. We have given the decision to protect all women and people on this day, so we consider this day as a day of faith, boldness and free will. As Kurdish women, we have taken the thought and philosophy of the leader Ocalan as a base for establishing an organization and an army. During the past six years, we have fought against Daesh, the enemy of humanity and the most barbaric and serious organization intellectually, socially, culturally, politically and militarily. We have begun the struggle with the identity of the Kurdish women. Today, thanks to the sacrifices and the strong struggle, the YPJ have become the identity of all the women of the world.

We have achieved all this thanks to the thought and philosophy of the leader Ocalan, who said at the beginning of his struggle that the liberation of society lies in the liberation of women, and made a great effort to rebuild the personality of the free woman. In order to maintain this effort, we must preserve the heritage and development of women’s struggle. Therefore, we must strive without interruption. As Women’s Protection Units, we have made this covenant and begun to follow this path to achieve freedom for all women.
