Estimated number of Guantanamo recidivists continues to rise / Long War Journal
16 Sep 2016 AM PDT – The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released its most recent statistics on Guantanamo recidivism this week. 208 former detainees are either confirmed or suspected of rejoining the jihad. 188 of them were transferred or released during the Bush administration and the remaining 20 by the Obama administration. 17 Sept 2016 – Foreigners in Germany formed “eight percent” until 2000. Since then, this rate rose to 14% in 2005 and, currently, has reached 21%, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
Germany’s society is the most multicultural it has ever been, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said Friday that a total of 17.1 million people in the country had a migrant background in 2015. Destatis said about one-in-five people, or 21% of the total population had a migrant background last year—meaning the person or at least one parent didn’t have German citizenship at birth. www.mesop.de

Syria Cease-Fire Tested by Fighting in Damascus Suburb
A cease-fire in Syria that has largely held for four days faced a significant challenge on Friday morning as severe clashes were reported near Damascus. Rebel groups and the Syrian government blamed each other for the outburst of violence (CBS) in Jobar district, which hosts rebel fighters (Middle East Eye), including those from al-Qaeda’s former Syrian branch. September 17 – 2016 – by Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Syria’s ceasefire looked increasingly fragile on Friday, its fourth day, with no movement on aid to its largest city Aleppo and more violations were reported. Briefings to the UN Security Council by the representatives of the US and Russia, the two powers who arranged the truce, were cancelled on Friday.Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin blamed the US, suggesting there was lack of unity in the Obama Administration over the agreement. However, senior UN officials showed increasing frustration with the Assad regime over the inability to get assistance into Aleppo, besieged by pro-Assad forces and Russia in early July and again from early September.The UN envoy Staffan de Mistura said, “The Syrian government promised permits for UN aid convoys before the ceasefire….They have not been received. AP 17 Sept 2016 – Twenty-two members of Syria’s Kurdish National Council (KNC) have waged a hunger strike for the last five days to show solidarity with political prisoners being held by the PYD, the Syrian offshoot of PKK terrorist group.”Our strike will continue until the PYD frees all detained KNC members and Kurdish activists,” Marwan Ahmed, one of the hunger strikers, told Anadolu Agency from the city of Qamishli in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province. On 1 August 2016, Governorate of Hakkari imposed curfew for 3 days in Şapatan village and its hamlets Serero (İncesu) and Bêtyo (Dereboyu) in Şemdinli district on the grounds of military operations to be conducted in the region. ——– 2 soldiers were reportedly wounded when an armed attack was organised on the night of 1 August 2016 by Peoples’ United Revolution Movement (HBDH) composed of 8 Marxist-Leninist organisations against Dalören Gendarmerie Station in Hozat district in Tunceli.

Mesut İlkbahar, der am 1. August 2016 auf dem Weg war von dem Dorf Pakîre im Distrikt Hozat in der Provinz Tunceli zu der Gendarmerie-Station Dalören, wurde erschossen, als Gendarmerie-Soldaten in der Nähe der Station das Feuer auf sein Fahrzeug eröffneten.
