September 8, 2016 | Jacob Olidort -is a Soref Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, where he focuses on Salafism and Islamist groups in the Middle East, and is an adjunct professor at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. Olidort has spent nearly two years in the Middle East, including a Fulbright Scholarship in the UAE and field work on Salafism in Jordan.
In August, U.S. President Barack Obama reassured the Pentagon that the Islamic State will “inevitably be defeated.” U.S. government officials, generals, and pundits have been debating what could happen when the group is defeated in Iraq and Syria and have been hard at work penning ISIS obituaries. Based on my recent study, the first systematic review of over 150 Arabic language publications that the group has released since it announced a caliphate in June 2014 (which includes the nearly 100 textbooks it released last fall), it seems that ISIS as a lethal idea will stick around long after it will be driven out of Raqqa.Put differently, while ISIS will eventually expire as a state, it will continue to “inspire” terrorism as an idea with lethal implications. MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY : IRAN’S ‘USEFUL SYRIA’ IS PRACTICALLY COMPLETE

Helping the Assad regime establish full control in Damascus is only one part of Iran’s plan to create a regional Shiite crescent, and any ceasefire plan that furthers such goals could spark wider sectarian conflict.
As Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov continue seeking a deal on military cooperation and a nationwide cessation of hostilities in Syria, the Assad regime — with Iran’s military aid — has been accelerating its evacuation of the besieged Sunni suburbs surrounding Damascus. On August 27, Bashar al-Assad’s forces moved into Daraya, less than two miles from the capital’s center, after convincing the approximately 8,000 local residents who remained there to leave. The Daraya incident is not isolated — the regime has begun negotiating similar agreements with other besieged Sunni areas around Damascus in order to protect the capital and the presidential palace from rebels, who could use these towns as points of access. Yet the fact that Iranian-sponsored militias are heavily involved in the sieges also says a lot about Tehran’s interest in establishing control over these towns, which fall within the “useful Syria” (i.e., Assad-controlled Syria) and the wider Shiite crescent that the Islamic Republic has long prioritized in the region. 8 Sept 2016 – The top Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, Ismail Haniyeh and Mahmoud al-Zahar, left Gaza on Sept. 3 for the airport in Cairo through the Rafah border crossing, accompanied by a large delegation of some 50 Hamas officials. This appears to be the largest group of officials, activists and bodyguards ever to leave Gaza as a group. Haniyeh’s family members joined the delegation, too. Ahmad Bahar, a senior veteran Hamas official and the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, was supposed to join the group, but sources in Gaza told Al-Monitor that Egypt refused to grant him a travel permit at the border and he was forced to return home. By Tom Perry | BEIRUT – WORLD NEWS – 9 Sept 2016 – Syrian Kurdish groups and their allies will approve a constitution for a new system of government in northern Syria next month, a top Kurdish politician said, defying a Turkish incursion aimed at curbing Kurdish influence in the area.
The new system will be established in parts of the north where Kurdish groups have already carved out autonomous regions since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, alarming Turkey which fears the rise of Kurdish influence on its border. “We have decided to convene a meeting of the founding assembly of the federal system at the start of October, and we will declare our system in northern Syrian,” Hadiya Yousef, who chairs the assembly, said in an interview.”We will not retreat from this project. 9 Sept 2016 – KHARABRUD, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— An Iranian Kurdish rebel group received military training in weapons and explosives from U.S. and European advisers as part of the international program backing Iraqi Kurds in the war against the Islamic State group in Iraq, the group’s commander told The Associated Press.
The group, called the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), is one of several Iranian Kurdish factions that have carried out attacks this year inside Iran, sparking a crackdown by security forces. … was nicht einmal so falsch ist, weil die islamischen Wissenschaftler wahrhaftig einmal eine großartige Zeit hatten – allerdings dann für an die 2000 Jahre auf dem Schlauch standen.
Doch zweierlei dazu: Wenn Islamische Interpretation antiker Texte für Europa wichtig war, dann gehört tatsächlich auch dieser Islam zu Europa – wieso aber deswegen automatisch nun alle Muslime ?
Allerdings : Das Qantara Magazin wird fast voll und ganz von der EU / Brüssel finanziert – die fördert solche „Fundamente“, die ein Qantara Journalismus sich gehorsam zu eigen macht, auch wenn man ansonsten ganz Derridaistisch grundlegende Essentialität (Fundamente etc.) leugnet.
Sollte mal einer schreiben: daß die Fundamente von 2000 Jahren hellenistischer wie christlich wie jüdischer Produktion von Aufklärung und Humanismus aktuell niederträchtig verleugnet und geopfert werden: für Qantara News wäre das eine stockrechte Gesinnung!
Paradox ? Nein, ideologische Absicht.
