21 Aug 2016 – By Scott Lucas – eawolrdview – Regime and Kurdish forces fought for a fourth day in Hasakah in northeastern Syria on Saturday, amid a failure of negotiations for a ceasefire.
Pro-regime websites cited a “military source” who said that the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party (PYD) and its YPG militia had demanded the complete withdrawal of the pro-Assad militia, the National Defense Forces, from the city.The source said that the regime countered with the proposal that some NDF groups could be disarmed, provided the YPG and PYD disarm the Kurdish security force, the Asayish.Clashes were renewed in the two main areas of fighting, the al-Nashwa and Gweiran districts, on Saturday night.A YPG commander, Lewend Rojava, suggested that the conflict will expand, with the militia — a leading force in the war in northern Syria, fighting both the Islamic State and Syria’s rebels — joining the Asayish in the fighting.Rojava said the main reason for the eruption of conflict was “the chauvinism of the Baathist regime, and resistance to change its approach which denies the existence of coexisting peoples in the region”. Regime Steps Back on Russian Use of Airbase for Syrian Operations
Facing criticism from MPs, Iran’s regime has stepped back from full public agreement to Russian use of an Iranian airbase for operations in northern Syria.
Russian Tu22-33M “Backfire” long-range bombers and Su-34 tactical bombers began operations from the Hamedan base last Monday. Iranian officials — including the Secretary of the National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani — indicated that the agreement was part of an Iranian-Russian “strategic cooperation” in the region.However, 20 MPs — most of them conservatives — filed a protest that the Russian use of the base violated the Islamic Republic’s Constitution, which prohibits any foreign military presence in the country. 21 Aug 2016 – Dank des Putsches politisiert die türkische Regierung die Streitkräfte in ihrem Sinne. Die entscheidenden Fragen bleiben auch einem Monat nach dem Putschversuch unbeantwortet.
Fast 3300 Angehörige des türkischen Militärs sitzen derzeit in Haft: 1099 Feldoffiziere und 330 Unteroffiziere, dazu 149 Generäle und Admirale; das sind etwa 40 Prozent der Armeeführung. Allesamt gelten sie der Regierung und der Öffentlichkeit als Gülenisten, Umstürzler, Volksfeinde.
Doch auch einen Monat nach dem Putschversuch sind entscheidende Fragen zu den Vorgängen Mitte Juli unbeantwortet. Wie ist es möglich, dass angeblich fast die Hälfte der Militärführung mit den Gülenisten sympathisierte und dies nicht bekannt war? Wer war der militärische Anführer der Rebellion? Wer sollte die Regierung übernehmen? Und wieso ist Hakan Fidan, Chef des Geheimdienstes MIT, weiter im Amt, obwohl er am 15. - August 2016, SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG – Der Bruder von Omran (hier neben seiner Schwester), dessen Bilder nach einem Luftangriff in Aleppo um die Welt gingen, ist tot. Der Zehnjährige erlag seinen Wunden. Laut Roten Kreuz haben in Syrien inzwischen etwa 50 000 Kinder ihr Leben verloren.
