August 7, 2016 MESOP – BERLIN,— Asylum requests from Turkish citizens, mostly Kurds fleeing to Germany, are on the rise in the wake of the recent failed coup attempt and renewed military operations in the southeastern Kurdish cities of Turkey, the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has said.
Recent figures released by BAMF have revealed the number of Turkish citizens almost doubled this year.Government statistics state during the first half of this year there have already been 1,767 Turkish citizens seeking asylum in Germany, while last year 1,719 Turkish citizens requested asylum.According to government statistics, 1,510 of the Turkish citizens requesting asylum in Germany were of Kurdish origin. 7 Aug 2016 – MESOP – The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Nazim Dabbagh, told Kurdpress that a high-level delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is to visit Iran today August 7. According to Dabbagh the PUK Deputy Leader, Barham Salih, will lead the delegation. The official added to Kurdpress that the delegation is to discuss developments in Kurdistan Region and Iraq as well as the entire region with Iranian officials. Dabbagh also said that the visit plans to boost ties between the party and Tehran. www.mesop.de

Youssef Diab – Asharq al awsat – 7 August 2016 – A cessation of hostilities agreement brokered by Russia and the United States brought a measure of relief to the battered Syrian city of Aleppo on May 5, 2016 but President Bashar al-Assad said he still sought a total, crushing victory over rebel forces. Beirut- Syria’s opposition factions broke into eastern Aleppo Saturday and took over strategic areas for Syrian regime and militias loyal to it south and west the city. Areas controlled by the regime have become besieged and lost connection with other provinces, except for Castelo road, revealed a source from the free army.He confirmed that it will take only hours to liberate eastern areas and rebels have crossed halfway through liberating the whole city. The group’s name means “The Sword of the Mahdi (may God hasten his emergence) Brigade.” The Syrian civil war features multiple Syrian Shi’i formations primarily affiliated with Hezbollah, such as Quwat al-Ridha and Liwa al-Imam al-Mahdi. Another militia- the Ja’afari Force– had a more interesting evolution over time from origins in the National Defence Forces in Damascus, eventually emerging as an affiliate of the Iraqi Shi’i Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada’ but now claiming to be an independent group.
