Kurds sole US ally in Syria: researcher – A researcher in Brookings center believes that Kurds are only ally of the U.S. in Syria.
Michael Ohanlon, a researcher in the center, told Bloomberg that the U.S. has been entangled in a complicated situation in Syria and Washington does not have any other important military ally except the Kurds. He went on to add that the U.S. is still thinking about defeating the IS, Jabhad al-Nusra and displacing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Bloomberg further added that Washington ties with Syrian Kurdish oppositions have damaged the U.S. relation with Turkey. www.mesop.de

The seemingly interminable Syrian civil war has generated millions of refugees, but in the United States and Europe, politics and fear have overwhelmed the policy debate on the refugee crisis. Some leaders—most notably German Chancellor Angela Merkel—have faced pushback against their willingness to accept large numbers of Syrian refugees. For the United States, the refugee crisis has become an issue in the ongoing presidential campaign, with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump presenting very different policies.

They are kept on special racks, inside secure underground vaults, inside protected aircraft shelters, inside a heavily guarded area, surrounded by two layers of fencing, lighting, cameras and intrusion detection devices, on protected airbases. But this particular airbase, Incirlik, is in southern Turkey. The Turkish commander of the base recently was frog-marched off in handcuffs after being accused of involvement in last month’s failed coup against the government.
