19 June 2017 This report concerns the political and security situation in Shingal after the summer of 2014 when Yazidi population of the district was exposed to atrocities at the hands of IS. These events damaged trust between the Yazidi population and the governing authorities. The PKK entered the stage, aided Yazidis and began to build governance and armed structures in the district. The area has thus become an arena of competition between local, national and regional actors. While outlining the competing interests in the district of Shingal, this report provides a set of recommendations to the PKK, the PKK-linked actors in the district, the KRG (KDP and PUK), the Government of Iraq, Turkey and the US with an aim of promoting stabilisation and the well-being of the local population. Israel Gives Secret Aid to Syrian Rebels – Fighters near Golan Heights in Syria receive cash and humanitarian help

June 18, 2017 3:17 p.m. ET – Israel has been regularly supplying Syrian rebels near its border with cash as well as food, fuel and medical supplies for years, a secret engagement in the enemy country’s civil war aimed at carving out a buffer zone populated by friendly forces.
The Israeli army is in regular communication with rebel groups and its assistance includes undisclosed payments to commanders that help pay salaries of fighters and buy ammunition and weapons, according to interviews with about half a dozen Syrian fighters. Israel has established a military unit that oversees the support in Syria—a country that it has been in a state of war with for decades—and set aside a specific budget for the aid, said one person familiar with the Israeli operation. Breaking: Intense clashes break-out between Syrian Army and US-backed forces in west Raqqa
By Leith Fadel – Al Masdar – 19/06/2017 14 BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 A.M.) – Intense clashes have broken out between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the western countryside of Al-Raqqa, tonight, a military source informed Al-Masdar.According to the source, units from the Syrian Arab Army attempted to cross SDF front-lines in order to rescue their fallen pilot; however, they were turned away by the latter.This resulted in a fierce confrontation that is currently ongoing between the two entities near the key town of Resafa in western Al-Raqqa. Escalation in S. Syria with Iranian-led gains
A joint Syrian army-Hizballah force was unable in two weeks of vicious warfare to break the resistance of the Syrian rebels holding out in Daraa and capture the southern Syrian town. On Saturday, June 17, they declared a 48-hour ceasefire until Monday and gave the rebels an ultimatum: Withdraw with your families to Jordan during the pause under a safe conduct guarantee, or else face the resumption of the ferocious hammering by the Syrian army’s crack 4th armored division and Hizballah’s al-Qaim commando brigade.
Up until the ceasefire, those forces dropped on the rebels holding out in Daraa 712 explosive barrels from helicopters and fired 450 rockets in 166 air sorties. If the rebels choose to fight on and reject the ultimatum, they will face those Syrian and Hizballah forces fortified with advanced Russian-made Mi-25 “flying tanks,” which are capable of carrying even heavier amounts of barrel bombs and armed with anti-tank rockets for striking fortified rebel positions.
