Greece Accused of Deporting Turkish Asylum Seekers
Greece has forcibly deported seventeen Turkish asylum seekers (NYT), including a journalist facing a long prison sentence, according to a Greek human rights organization. The UN refugee agency said it was “deeply concerned” about the report, which claimed Greek police have handed asylum seekers over to masked armed men to be returned to Turkey by boat. www.mesop.de

On August 3, 2014, the Islamic State (or ISIS) attacked the region around Mount Sinjar in northwestern Iraq, near the country’s border with Syria. The region was home to approximately 400,000 Yazidis, the members of an ancient and often-persecuted religious minority whose beliefs and practices incorporate elements of Christianity, Islam, and other monotheistic religions. Der ebenso überflüssige wie europarechts- und verfassungswidrige Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetzentwurf, dessen Namen auch Justizminister Maas als „bescheuert“ erachtet, hat ihm jetzt auch noch eine Demütigung der Vereinten Nationen eingebracht. Die als Bedenken vorgebrachte Kritik des Sonderbeauftragten der UN für die Meinungsfreiheit, David Kaye, vom 01.06.2017 (Reference: OL DEU 1/2017) ist vernichtend. Das Gesetz wecke schwerwiegende Bedenken hinsichtlich seiner Eingriffe in die Meinungsfreiheit und des Rechts auf Anonymität.
