Mohammad Hossein Rajabi, was assigned Friday with the command of the Guards units fighting a Kurdish insurgency in eastern Iran. ANKARA – 11 July 2016 – Hurriyet – Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants have begun using a new route through Azerbaijan, Cyprus and Georgia to transfer their suicide bombers from Syria to Europe, Turkish daily Milliyet reported on July 11, citing intelligence officials. According to the daily, Turkish intelligence officials, who cooperated with foreign intelligence services, determined that ISIL recently tasked its militants from Azerbaijan and the Northern Caucasus to carry out attacks in Turkey and Azerbaijan. 11 July 2016 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – The Turkish Government is blocking access for independent investigations into alleged mass abuses of civilians, including killings and displacements, according to Human Rights Watch. – Monday’s report said Turkish authorities have imposed imposed blanket, round-the-clock curfews on 22 towns and cities in mainly-Kurdish areas of the southeast. The restrictions also prevent non-governmental organizations, journalists, and lawyers from investigating those operations or any alleged abuses by security forces or armed groups. 11 July 2016 – HRW / MESOP – (Istanbul) – The Turkish government is blocking access for independent investigations into alleged mass abuses against civilians across southeast Turkey, Human Rights Watch said today. The alleged abuses include unlawful killings of civilians, mass forced civilian displacement, and widespread unlawful destruction of private property. The government should promptly grant the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights permission to enter the area and investigate according to its standards. MESOP : ASHTON CARTER ARRIVEDIN IRAQ / Iraqi Forces Seize Strategic Airbase Near Mosul
Iraqi troops captured Qayara airbase on Saturday with air support from the U.S.-led coalition. The airbase is located 40 miles from Mosul and will be used as a staging ground for operations to retake the city. A team of U.S. advisors surveyed the facility on Sunday.
