The pilot who defied Saddam’s orders to gas Halabja
KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region — In a neighborhood of Kirkuk lives a family of a Baathist-executed Iraqi air force pilot. The pilot Aydn Mustafa defied orders from Saddam Hussein, refusing to drop poisonous gasses on March 16, 1988, when 5,000 people were killed, 10,000 were injured and many continue to suffer from lingering effects. Mustafa, a Turkmen, was born in 1949 in Kirkuk. He was held in solitary confinement until being executed August 29, 1988. Mustafa’s family and friends now take great pride in Mustafa’s inactions. www.mesop.de

DEBKAfile March 18, 2017, 9:59 AM (IDT) Israeli Ambassador Cary Koren was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry Friday for clarifications on Israel’s air strikes over Syria that night. He had a conversation with Russian Dep. Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on recent developments in Syria, a ministry statement said. DEBKAfile: Israeli diplomats are rarely called for clarifications by the foreign ministry in Moscow, since concluding an agreement to coordinate aerial activity over Syria. This time was different because the Israeli air strikes near Palmyra appear for the first time to have targeted the northern T-4 air base, which is used by the Russian military. It also serves Iranian military movements in Syria.

18 March 2017 – Two-day expert level negotiations on finding a settlement to Syria crisis is scheduled to begin in the Iranian capital on April 18. Delegations from Iran, Turkey and Russia, the three main countries of Astana talks on Syria, issued a joint statement in the Kazakh capital on Thursday underlining the need to keep the ceasefire regime established in the war-hit country, IRNA reported.

March 18 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview -The first group of about 1,500 people is being removed from al-Wa’er, the last opposition district in Homs.
Rebels, their families, and other civilians are being transferred from the area, which still has about 50,000 residents, to Idlib Province and to Jarablus on the Turkish border. A truce earlier this week between the opposition and the regime, brokered by the Russian military, provides for the removal of about 15,000 people. The opposition finally capitulated after years of siege and months of bombardment, following the takeover of negotiations by the Russians from Iranian officials.

MESOP CALL „SAVE SINJAR/STOP PKK“: Barzani: Sinjar Can’t be Rebuilt with Unofficial Forces Present
Basnews English – 18 March 2017 – ERBIL — The predominantly Yezidi town of Sinjar cannot be reconstructed as long as unofficial armed forces maintain their presence in the area, said Kurdistan Reign President Masoud Barzani.
Kurdistan24 reported that the Kurdish President on Friday met with a delegation from the Yezidi Spiritual Council to ensure them of Kurdistan Regional Government’s utmost efforts to support the Yezidis. He stressed out that while Kurdistan Region’s official institutes and the Peshmerga forces are operating in the Yezidi areas, there is no need for other unofficial forces who pose obstacles to the return of the locals. Barzani also stated that Kurdistan Region is attempting to declare Sinjar a separate province from Nineveh. The entire Kurdish nation shares the sorrow the Yezidis feel and that is the reason hundreds of Peshmerga forces sacrificed their lives to liberate Sinjar from the Islamic State (IS). www.mesop.de

| The dense layout of the Old City in west Mosul along with poor weather has severely slowed down the progress of the Iraqi forces (ISF). The Iraqis are declaring specific buildings and streets freed such as Ninewa Hospital to document their advances. The ISF were still pushing on the Great Mosque, which was where Islamic State head Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi announced the caliphate in 2014. Yesterday, the Bab al-Tob neighborhood was officially declared freed, but on March 16 the Iraqi air forces was still bombing targets in the neighborhood to try to root out Islamic State snipers. Finally, the Iraqi forces tried to push into Nablus, but the fighting was so fierce that American spotters were called in to bring in Apache helicopters for close fire missions. Heavy rains in recent days have limited air support, which has slowed progress by the ground troops. The compact layoutof the Old City has also made things difficult because many of the streets are too narrow for ISF vehicles to maneuver. Finally, despite Iraqi propaganda IS is still putting up fierce opposition. Altogether that has led the ISF to begin to adjust their plans to deal with the new environment. NORTH KURDISTAN (TURKEY) MESOP NEWS : SABAH REPORTS – ERDOGAN’S MOUTHPIECE 740 suspects detained in nationwide operation targeting PKK terrorist group DAILY SABAHISTANBUL 18 March 2017 – Turkish security forces detained 740 suspects in simultaneous operations in 36 provinces across the country targeting the PKK terrorist organization’s urban organization. A statement from the Ministry of Interior said the operations targeted the terrorist group’s restructuring efforts ahead of the summer. Applying guerilla warfare tactics in Turkey’s mountainous eastern provinces, the terrorist group goes into retreat in urban areas during harsh winters of the region. Three-day-long operations targeted both the militia and sympathizers of the terrorist group and its umbrella structure KCK. An AK-47 automatic rifle, four handguns, 14 rifles and ammunition were seized in the operations, in addition to numerous documents and supplies. Previously in February, 259 suspects were detained in operations targeting PKK/KCK, of which 39 were arrested in ensuing legal proceedings. |

Januar auf der Straße Doğubayazıt – Çaldıran von Soldaten angehalten und der selbst später festgenommen und zur Wache Çetenli gebracht wurde, auf der Wache misshandelt wurde. Wegen der Misshandlungen floh Güzel aus der Wache und wurde von Schüssen der Soldaten verletzt und ins Staatliche Krankenhaus Doğubayazıt gebracht.

Die Juli-Notiz hält also an der Marxschen Begriffsbildung zumindest in dem Sinn fest, daß die “Entmenschlichung” als Funktionsbedingung der kapitalistischen Demokratie, ihres Vermögens zur Integration des Proletariats begriffen wird: Ist es doch grade etwas Negatives, seine “Entmenschlichung”, “Zurückgebliebenheit”, seine geistige Pauperisierung, die seine “Integration in die bürgerliche Gesellschaft erlaubt”. Den beiden letzten Sätzen der Notiz, also Adornos überhaupt letzten schriftlich fixierten Äußerungen zufolge äußert sich der “regressive” Zustand des Proletariats auch in dem Kitsch der “Hymnen” und “Revolutionslyrik” östlicher Staaten: “Diesen Zusammenhängen einmal aufs genaueste nachgehen. Sehr wichtig” [ 4 ] Unterstellt man, daß primär der zweite Teil der Notiz deren erste Sätze konkretisieren sollten, so geht es in der ganzen Notiz durchweg um geschichtsphilosophische und ästhetische Zusammenhänge; mithin nicht um die “gesamte Theorie” von Marx. Weder ist von ihrem ökonomischen Teil, noch von ihrem philosophischen Ansatz die Rede, ihrem Entwurf einer negativen oder “materialistischen Dialektik”.“

In der 2003 von Rolf Tiedemann veröffentlichten Auswahl aus den Notizen Adornos findet sich im ersten Satz seiner letzten Notiz vom Juli 1969 eine kritische Äußerung über die “Sprachmanieren von Marx”, seine “Rhetorik und Metaphorik”, die ihm “längst […] suspekt” sei. Der sich anschließende Satz scheint diesen Verdacht in einem radikaleren und prinzipielleren Sinn konkretisieren zu wollen: “Wie aber, wenn eine einschneidende Kritik der gesamten [!] Theorie von der Sprache her zu führen wäre” – eine frappierende Erwägung, die eine Fülle von Fragen und Problemen aufwirft, zunächst philologischer, doch vor allem sachlicher Art. – Sollte dieser zweite Satz der letzten Notiz wortwörtlich zu verstehen sein, müßte der Terminus “gesamte Theorie” auf Marxens philosophische Theorie, die “materialistische Dialektik”, ebenso bezogen werden wie auf seine ökonomischen Theorie.
