Two PKK Members Explode Themselves in Makhmour
– GULAN MEDIA – 14/02/2017 – Two Kurdish youth affiliated with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) committed suicide by blowing themselves up on the 18th anniversary of Turkey’s capture of the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.
The mayor of Makhmour district, north-east of Mosul, told BasNews that an explosion took place last night in a refugee camp in Makhmour where the PKK affiliates are living.
Jamal Murtka, the commander of Peshmerga forces in Makhmour, told BasNews an individual from the camp exploded himself last night and a girl also blew herself up earlier today in the same camp. The PKK-affiliated youth have apparently exploded themselves in protest to Ocalan’s detention by Turkey, expressing their utmost sacrifice to the Kurdish jailed leader. www.mesop.de

On Feb. 26, jihadist social media sites reported that Abu al Khayr al Masri, one of al Qaeda’s top leaders, had been killed in a US drone strike in Idlib, Syria. – Images of Masri’s car were first posted online by Pieter Van Ostaeyen, a PhD candidate who closely tracks the fighting in Iraq and Syria. One of the pictures, which Mr. Van Ostaeyen obtained from an administrator at the jihadi outfit Al Maqalaat, can be seen above. Masri’s death was subsequently confirmed in a joint statement issued by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) on Mar. 2. The Iraqi forces attacked across three fronts with the Federal Police and Emergency Response Division (ERD) following the Tigris River up to Mosul Airport and then into south Mosul. The BBC’s Quentin Sommervile was embedded with the RRD during its initial assault on the city.

If only PKK would respect the soveriegnty of KRG this problem could’ve been avoided. Its time for kurds to look beyond their party allegience and take a critical look at their own party. What’s right is right. PKK are not perfect and they have made a huge mistake here. For years they have occupied Shingal illegally with money from Baghdad. While they themselves won’t allow any Peshmerga in Rojava. This double standard is not acceptable. Problem will only be solved when PKK learn to respect KRG’s border the same way KRG respects Rojava’s border. Shingal is part of KRG. Period. This means only Peshmerga can operate in the area. All political decisions must be made by KRG. Not by PKK or “local” PKK millitias. Any Yezidi that wants to defend Shingal must sign up as Peshmerga. KRG is not a land of millitias. Before we know it we’ll have christian millitias, turkmen millitias, arab millitias and all want autonomy. KRG will be divided and we will never become a state. And vice verca. PKK will never allow any local KDP millitias in Rojava. So why do they expect KRG to allow PKK millitias in Shingal? Enough hypocracy from PKK. Report www.mesop.de

Barzani calls on ‘relevant parties’ to bring Shingal situation ‘under control’
By Rudaw 5 March 2017 – ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish President Masoud Barzani has given “relevant parties” and the Peshmerga ministry instructions regarding Friday clashes that erupted between the Rojava Peshmerga and the Shingal Protection Units (YBS) resulting in a number of casualties in Shingal, a spokesperson for the Kurdish president said in a statement, adding that the instructions are intended “to bring the situation under control.” The statement said that President Barzani is “saddened” by the unfolding events in Shingal, warning that “only” the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) institutions have the right to administer the areas in Kurdistan Region.Shingal, a mainly Yezidi area, is located in the so-called disputed areas claimed both by Erbil and Baghdad.
