MESOP NEWS TODAYS OPINION : Here’s what Plan B in the Middle East should look like

By Stuart E. Eizenstat and Dennis Ross January 12 at 7:43 PM – THE WASHINGTON POST

Stuart E. Eizenstat is a former ambassador to the European Union and deputy treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, where he headed the economic dimensions of the Middle East peace process. Dennis Ross, a counselor at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, was a special assistant to President Obama from 2009 to 2011.

We have long worked to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians, believing that with two national movements, the only realistic answer is two states for two peoples. Unfortunately, this objective has never been less attainable. We believe, therefore, that it is time for a Plan B — an approach that incoming president Donald Trump might broker. MESOP TODAYS EDITORIAL – Policy Notes 29 – U.S. Policy on Turkey /  James F. Jeffrey and Soner Cagaptay

TRANSITION 2017: Policy Notes for the Trump Administration

January 2017 – By JAMES F. JEFFREY, a former deputy national security advisor and ambassador to Turkey and Iraq, is the Philip Solondz Distinguished Fellow at The Washington Institute.

SONER CAGAPTAY is the Beyer Family Fellow and director of the Turkish Research Program at The Washington Institute.

The Trump administration should revamp policy toward Turkey to emphasize a transactional approach to critical bilateral issues, counsels two leading experts on U.S.-Turkish relations. In the first in a series of Washington Institute presidential transition papers addressing key policy challenges across the Middle East, former U.S. ambassador to Ankara James F. Jeffrey and noted Turkish scholar Dr. Soner Cagaptay warn against maintaining current policy that has had the effect of mismanaging relations with a major NATO ally and pushing Ankara toward Moscow. “For any relationship with [Turkish president] Erdogan to succeed,” argue Jeffrey and Cagaptay, “it will have to be based on mutual interests and trade-offs rather than deep friendship and shared values.” Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=81986

NORTH KURDISTAN (TURKEY)

MESOP NEWS BACKGROUNDER : The Fight for Mosul & Turkish-Iraqi Relations

By Mustafa Aydin – hurriyetdailynews.com –  2017-01-12 19:53 GMT –  After months of preparation and supported by the U.S.-led coalition’s air power, the Iraqi army finally started its military operation to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on Oct. 17, 2016. Since then, the operation has maintained a slow but steady progress, reaching the Tigris River by Jan. 8. It is claimed that the joint operation involving the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, Shiite militias as well as U.S.-led coalition forces has already caused ISIL to lose more than 50,000 fighters and most of the ground under its control. MESOP NEWS GREAT ARTICLE BY  Loubna Mrie :  Aleppo’s forgotten revolutionaries

Date of publication: 12 January, 2017 – Comment: Countless icons of the Syrian revolution who struggled for freedom between 2012-2014 have been ignored and erased from history by the western media, writes Loubna Mrie.

In journalism and on social media, I often come across a narrative – from the Syrian regime’s most ardent supporters, to even those who acknowledge its oppressive nature – asserting that the Assad regime is fighting a war against vile, extremist, Al-Qaeda-like organisations. The ignorant simplicity of this argument became clear after the fall of rebel-held eastern Aleppo. The city was often portrayed as the epicentre of a jihadi insurgency liberated by the national army. Many ostensibly left-wing individuals worldwide even went so far as to celebrate this as “liberation”.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=82009

MESOP INTEL DEBKA FILES ISRAEL – MYSTERY OR NO MYSTERY ? – Mystery blasts in Damascus: Syria accuses Israel

There were two unclaimed explosions in Damascus overnight Thursday and early Friday (Jan.12-13) – one at an officers club in Damascus and the second at Mezzeh airport, which Syria alleged was the work of the new Israeli S-35 stealth aircraft firing across the border from a point over the Sea of Galilee. There was no claim to either of the attacks.
The standard Israeli policy of striking any Iranian arms shipments for Hizballah in Lebanon when they cross through Syria would not longer be applicable to any such air strike, if indeed one was launched.. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=82015

MESOP NEWS SPECIAL Kremlin Shadow – How Putin Played the Far Left / Hillary Clinton’s Goldmann Sachs speeches  (THE DAILY BEAST)

The Kremlin didn’t just rely on the alt-right to help Trump win. Bernie Bros, Greens, and ‘anti-imperialists’ got had, too.

Casey Michel – 01.13.17 7:15 AM ET – THE DAILY BEAST – In the aftermath of the U.S. intelligence community’s recent report on the Russian-directed hacking of the Democratic National Committee, it’s easy but misleading to conclude that the Russian government’s propaganda strategy lies solely in advancing the careers of conservative Republicans in the United States. Backing Donald Trump’s candidacy, via steady leaks of stolen communiques to organizations like WikiLeaks, was but one prong of the Kremlin’s assault on American liberal democracy. Part of its campaign to vilify Hillary Clinton involved catering to her rivals on the far-left and pushing any number of crankish conspiracy theories that appeal as much to “anti-imperialists” as to neo-Nazis. There’s nothing new in that, really. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=82007

MESOP INTEL DEBKA FILES ISRAEL : JARED & DON & JERUSALEM !?

Exclusive: US Jerusalem embassy – only foundations
13 Jan 2017 – Exclusive to debkafile:
The appointment of Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, 35, as senior adviser in the future White House on Middle East affairs is part of a broader plan taking shape in the president-elect’s transition team for bringing forward a resolution of the Israel-Palestinian dispute. This plan has not yet jelled into concrete policy, but is still a set of ideas under consideration by the team’s insiders, in the light of Trump’s comments past and present.
On Nov 22, the president elect said that Kushner “could be very helpful” in reconciling the longstanding dispute between the Israelis and Palestinians. “He would be very good at it” and “He knows the region.”He also said: Many people said “you can’t do it. I disagree. I think I have reason to believe I can do it.” Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=82011

THE GERMAN CHAPTER

MESOP CULTUR : ZUR ENTWICKLUNGSGESCHICHTE EINES IDEOLOGISCHEN GEBRAUCHS-NARRATIVS

FERDINAND KNAUSS  – DIE THESE VOM FACHKRÄFTEMANGEL

Volltext lesen  http://www.mesop.de/?p=81984

MESOP NEWS – “DAS ALTE SPIEL” : SOBALD SIE ERWISCHT WERDEN, MACHEN SIE  Takiya: Täuschung, Verschleierung und Blendwerk im Islam |

MERKE !

–  FAZ 12 Jan 2017

MESOP CULTURE :  Gegenaufklärung ! – DIE SCHLECHTE DEKADENZ DER LBGTI-KULTUR

  • ANTI-WEISSER FUNDAMENTAL-RASSISMUS –

Volltext http://www.mesop.de/?p=81994
