MESOP “NO SATIRE” – BUT TRUE : OBAMA HACKED BY APO (OECALAN) !?  – THE GREAT LEADER & HELMSMAN

“About 250 Arab recruits for the U.S.-backed war against the Islamic State were being prepped by Kurdish instructors to receive military training from American troops. … But first, said the instructors, the recruits must learn and embrace the ideology of Abdullah Ocalan (…)
U.S. advisers are also present on the ground with the Turkish-backed rebels in Syria, setting up a scenario in which U.S. Special Operations forces embedded with opposing sides could confront one another.
“We have taken prisoners who were trained by the United States, and the Turks have prisoners of ours who were also trained by the United States,” said Abu Amjad, who keeps a photograph of Ocalan as the screen saver on his phone.”

MESOP TODAYS GREAT ARTICLE BY LIZ SLAY :  “LONG LIVE CHAIRMAN APO!”  – HOW US IMPERIALISM FAVORS OECALAN’S STALINIST PKK

U.S. military aid is fueling big ambitions for Syria’s leftist Kurdish militia –  By Liz Sly January 7 at 6:03 PM  – THE WASHINGTON POST

TAL ABYAD, Syria —In a former high school classroom in this northeastern Syrian town, about 250 Arab recruits for the U.S.-backed war against the Islamic State were being prepped by Kurdish instructors to receive military training from American troops.  – Most of the recruits were from villages surrounding the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa, and the expectation is that they will be deployed to the battle for the predominantly Arab city, which is now the main target of the U.S. military effort in Syria. But first, said the instructors, the recruits must learn and embrace the ideology of Abdullah Ocalan, a Kurdish leader jailed in Turkey whose group is branded a terrorist organization by both Washington and Ankara. The scene in the classroom captured some of the complexity of the U.S.-backed fight against the Islamic State in Syria, where a Kurdish movement that subscribes to an ideology at odds with stated U.S. policy has become America’s closest ally against the extremists.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=81884

!KNOW BETTER WITH MESOP NEWS” : RELIGIOUS PLURALISM IN MIDDLE EAST / FULL REPORT

Untying the Knots of Religious Diversity in Iraqi Kurdistan: Deploying Pluralism against Barbarism

Centre For Religious Pluralism In The Middle East |Executive Summary

8 Jan 2017 –  Beside the threat of ISIS, Iraqi Kurdistan is facing deep political and economic crisis that have negative implications on religious pluralism, particularly, in the face of uncertainty after the liberation of Mosul and the broader region of Nineveh. The work of KRG and, more specifically, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, in conjunction with various initiatives from representatives of different communities in the Ministry are noteworthy. Law 5 of 2015 for the ‘Protection of the Components [Minorities] of Kurdistan’ is one of the fruits of their efforts. This promising, albeit limited, work shows the intention of KRG to create an environment of religious tolerance, which (will) distinguish it from the rest of Iraq and the wider region. This view, however, is not always shared by the politico-religious leadership and the members of the communities, who often portray these changes as merely cosmetic.Read full Report http://www.mesop.de/?p=81871

MESOP RESULTATIONS : Unimaginable Horrors The War-Crimes Lawyer Hunting Syrian War Criminals

In 2012, David Crane helped put notorious Liberian dictator Charles Taylor behind bars. Now he’s turned his attention to Syria and is overseeing a project to assemble a massive database of President Bashar Assad’s war crimes.

By Susanne Koelbl – Roderick Aichinger / DER SPIEGEL – June 06, 2016  10:12 AM – Is it allowable to kill Bashar al-Assad? “It is,” says university professor David Crane, “under certain circumstances.” He asks the question to one of his students during a lecture, then answers it immediately himself, without any discernable emotion.Crane was once a chief prosecutor for the United Nations, but these days, he is a professor at Syracuse University’s College of Law in the state of New York. As a lawyer, when he sees Assad, he doesn’t see a monster, he sees a case. And it’s a case that he wants to bring before a court. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=81859

MESOP NEWS INDEPTH : A SHAKY ALLIANCE – Syria & Beyond: The Russia-Turkey-Iran “Natural Alliance”

Adrian Campbell of the University of Birmingham writes for The Conversation:

The ceasefire in Syria brokered by Russia, Turkey, and Iran has opened the way to peace talks in Kazakhstan between the Syrian government and opposition. The Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, will play peacemaker and the timing of the conference will enable participation by the new US administration. However it’s not yet clear how this process might tie in with any putative “grand bargain” between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

But however the US fits in, the rise of a Russian-Iranian-Turkish triumverate is a hugely significant development. On paper at least, these countries are not natural allies. On the contrary, they have a long and distinguished history of rivalry and warfare extending back centuries and stretching into recent decades. During the Cold War, Turkey was a key NATO ally; Iran supported the Afghan rebels against the USSR, while the USSR supported Iraq against Iran.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=81861
