Basnews English – 29/12/2016 – 20:36 | Middle East – ANKARA — The Syrian Kurdish forces and Islamic State (IS) are not included in a countrywide ceasefire in Syria, a spokesperson for Syrian rebels said. Following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement, brokered by Turkey and Russia, Osama Abu Zaid, a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army rebel alliance, said in Ankara that People’s Protection Units (YPG), an armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), is not included in the deal, as reported by Reuters. Syria Daily: Rebels Deny Turkey’s Claim “Ceasefire is Close”
December 29 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Rebels have denied a Turkish claim that a “ceasefire is close” in Syria’s 69-month conflict, saying they have not even seen the proposal. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday that Ankara and Russia had nearly brokered the agreement, amid their developing co-operation that recently struck a deal over much of northern Syria: We are still working on it. It could be put into place at any moment. It’s about expanding the cease-fire. We are also working for a negotiated political solution….There are two texts ready on a solution in Syria. One is about a political resolution and the other is about a ceasefire. They can be implemented any time.
However, a range of rebel factions — including Faylaq al-Sham, Ahrar al-Sham, and the Free Syrian Army — said they had not been given the text.A senior official of the rebel faction Ahrar al-Sham raised the specific objection of any reoccupation by the Assad regime of remaining opposition areas near Damascus. Trump must choose all his Cabinet members and appointments by his Jan. 20, 2017, inauguration. Audino was a Chief Combat Advisor embedded in 3rd Brigade, 4th Division that was formed by the Kurdish Peshmerga units to conduct counterinsurgency operations in Balad, Kirkuk and along the Iranian border. The expansion of the naval base comes days of the capture of the Syrian city of Aleppo by the Russian-backed Syrian forces. This comes also four days after the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov on December 19. American and Iraqi commanders were still talking about the next phase of the Mosul campaign when it already started. December 24 the Iraqi forces (ISF) began operations began. That day the Golden Division attacked Sukar and freed Falah in Mosul, while the army’s 71st and 76th Brigades took Zaytoun, and the town of Qaryat Tawilah. December 25 the Golden, 9th and 16thDivisions entered Quds, Sumer, and Dumiz in east Mosul. Then on December 26 U.S. forces shelled five neighborhoods in the city for the first time. Finally, on December 27 Quds was taken. Sukar, Falah, and Quds have been freed several times before, while Sumer and Dumiz have been fought over as well. The Ninewa Operations Command also discovered six IED factories in Gogjali an eastern suburb of the city. That was the first entered back on October and liberated twice before yet the Islamic State was still operative there. Full text |

Das teilte das Gründungsmitglied Rojava, Lokman Ahmet am späten Mittwochnachmittag mit. Seit Tagen steht die PYD unter Druck. Experten vermuten, dass die Aufforderung des syrischen Regimes, von der Terrormiliz IS befreite Gebiete in Nordsyrien sowie das von der Opposition befreite Aleppo zu verlassen, die PYD in Zugzwang brachte.
Erbil / TP – Übereinstimmenden PKK-nahen Medienberichten zufolge, hat das Nationalkongress von Rojava im Norden Syriens den Namen der Föderation Rojava sowie die Kantone abgeschafft und am späten Mittwochnachmittag beschlossen, dass die neue “de facto” Führung in Nordsyrien unter dem Namen “Nordsyrische Demokratische Union” auftritt.
