Dear all: Please find attached the INFORMAL English version of the COMPROMISE RESOLUTION / JOINT MOTION FOR RESOLUTION on EU-Turkey relations, negotiated this morning by the European Parliament’s political groups. The main political groups will formally support the attached text, it will be voted tomorrow (Thursday) at 12h00. Right now, in Strasbourg, Members are signing the resolution on behalf of their respective Groups, so only later today / later in the afternoon, I’ll be able to send you the FORMAL and OFFICIAL version of the text with the indication of Groups and Members supporting the text, thank you for your understanding. But, at least, you can have immediately an idea of “the direction” of the text.
Let me draw your attention on par.1 of the joint motion for resolution, it says : “1. Strongly condemns the disproportionate repressive measures taken in Turkey since the failed military coup attempt in July 2016; remains committed to keep Turkey anchored to the EU; calls, however, on the Commission and on the Member States to initiate a temporary freeze of the on-going accession negotiations with Turkey”;Members and Groups have now time until 13h00 today to table possible amendments to the joint motion, but in principle no major changes concerning the “main message” of the resolution are expected, but it remains of course to be checked.

MESOP NOTES : FINAL RESOLUTION ON TURKEY – EU PARLIAMENT
Dear all,
as promised, please find attached the OFFICIAL version of the JOINT MOTION FOR RESOLUTION on EU-Turkey relations, that the European parliament will adopt tomorrow, Thursday, at 12h00.
Please note that 6 amendments to the text have been tabled (they are attached too), in my opinion they have NO CHANCE to be adopted, certainly not the AMEND 2-6 tabled by the Marine Le Pen’s political group (the AMEND 1 is tabled by the EPP Group alone, which means that in principle it has not enough votes for its adoption, but let’s see tomorrow). The JOINT RESOLUTION as such is formally supported by the following groups : EPP – SOCIALISTS – ECR – ALDE – GUE/NGL – GREENS. This means that the resolution will be adopted by a very large majority of Members (I’ll keep you posted about the results tomorrow).

Nun haben die Justizminister der Länder beschlossen, das müsse reguliert werden: Facebook soll den Hass innerhalb von 24 Stunden löschen und darüber Berichte anfertigen, sonst drohen Geldbußen. Derlei hat der sozialdemokratische Bundesjustizminister Heiko Maas lange gefordert. Doch es geht nicht nur um staatliche Maßnahmen gegen Hass. Das Kommunistische Manifest verkündet: „Die Arbeiter haben kein Vaterland.” Doch Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels mussten nie eine Wahl gewinnen. Für ihre Enkel sieht die Sache anders aus. Nach der Implosion der Demokraten in den Vereinigten Staaten steht die ehemals stolze linke Mitte vor einem Scherbenhaufen — weltweit. Denn Trump ist keine Ausnahme, sondern Höhepunkt einer Niederlagenserie, in denen sich die Wähler von den traditionellen Arbeiterparteien abwenden.
Als Reaktion reißt man in den Partei-zentralen nun das Steuer herum. „Globalisierung einhegen!”, lautet die Devise. Und: „It’s the Economy, stupid.” Strategisch ist das nicht falsch. Doch die Besinnung auf traditionelle Ökonomie beruht zumindest zum Teil auf einer Fehlinterpretation. Denn den Wählern geht es nicht nur um die Wirtschaft. Zwar sind die Proteststimmen durchaus Ausdruck von Abstiegsängsten. Aber zugleich sind sie auch eine Abrechnung mit einer politischen Klasse, von der sich die Menschen moralisch bevormundet fühlen. Hatten die GenossInen der pro Israel Left noch vor dem Wahlen voll contra Trump gesetzt + obendrein den ebenso wirkungslosen wie lächerlichen Versuch nicht gescheut, einem die Clinton noch einmal hoffähig zu reden, so ist nun abschließend auf dieser Seite eine bemerkenswerte Zurückhaltung erkennbar, wenn es um Donald T. geht.
Anlässlich des BREXIT hatten Antideutsche et.al. noch explizit die Aufhebung des allgemeinen Wahlrechts gefordert bzw. dessen Ausübung an ein höheres Bildungsniveau geknüpft und Referenden ohnehin für konterrevolutionär erklärt (Ausnahme natürlich: Venezuela) – nun treffen sich der Wiener Scheit + Sarah W. und Oskar zwar nicht in einer Ehe – aber mit einem deutlichen Vorschuss-Bonus pro Trump. Präsident Trump: Anfang oder Ende eines Albtraums?
Nach dem Wahlsieg Donald Trumps versuchte Florian Markl für Mena Watch die Frage zu beantworten, was eine Trump-Präsidentschaft für den Nahen Osten bedeuten könnte. Obwohl er dieser Analyse viele Rosen streut, kommt Gerhard Scheit zu einem optimistischeren Ergebnis: Insbesondere die von Trump zumindest während des Wahlkampfs konsequent vertretene Ablehnung des Iran-Deals lasse hoffen,
„dass die künftige Außenpolitik der USA kein böser Alptraum wird, sondern vielmehr einen solchen beendet. Die Haltung der USA zum Deal mit der Islamischen Republik Iran, die bei Clinton sich wohl im Wesentlichen kaum verändert hätte, könnte nun theoretisch zum zentralen Bezugspunkt einer Rückgewinnung hegemonialer Politik werden. (…)
Möglicherweise spürt ‚ganz Berlin‘ – anders als die tumben Trump-Fans von FN, AfD und FPÖ – mit der Hellsicht der Ranküne bereits etwas davon, dass die Verwerfung weder des Freihandels noch der Interventionspolitik die Amtsperiode Trumps dauerhaft wird kennzeichnen können (und damit würden selbst die Sympathien von Ku-Klux-Klan-Leuten, die zur antihegemonialen Abschottung passen, ins Leere gehen); dass mit einem Wort dem Wahn vom Weltsouverän, der Obama bei seiner Wahl zum Präsidenten wie auf Wolken gebettet hatte und sich dann im Rückzug von hegemonialer Außenpolitik zugunsten des Klimaschutzes niederschlug, nun doch eine Gegenbewegung folgt.“
