Jerusalem Post, 11/11 – The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces last Friday announced the commencement of an operation to conquer the northern Syrian city of Raqqa. The operation was designated ‘Euphrates Wrath.’Raqqa is the capital of the ‘Caliphate’ maintained by the Islamic State organization. In tandem with the effort currently under way to recapture the Iraqi city of Mosul from IS, the loss of Raqqa would represent the final eclipse of the Islamic State as a quasi-sovereign entity. Muhammad Idrees Ahmad of the University of Stirling writes in al-Araby: The Syrian war has been deadly for healthcare services.
Physicians for Human Rights has recorded 382 attacks on medical facilities, of which 344 were carried out by the regime and Russia; they were also responsible for the deaths of 703 of the 757 medical personnel killed in the war so far.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have both condemned their targeting of hospitals “as a strategy of war”.
In its report to the UN Human Rights Council last September, the Independent Commission of Inquiry into Syria wrote that the “pattern of attacks [by pro-regime forces], and in particular the repeated bombardments, strongly suggests that there has been deliberate and systematic targeting of hospitals and other medical facilities during this reporting period”.The report adds: “Perhaps nowhere has the government assault on medical care been felt more strongly than in the opposition-controlled areas of Aleppo city and governorate, where at least 20 hospitals and clinics have reportedly been destroyed since January.” Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=80030

Basnews English – 13 Nov 2016 – SINJAR — An official from Sinjar district stated that Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) exploited the wounds inflicted to Yezidis by Islamic State (IS) for its own ambitions. Naif Saido, the mayor of Sinuni sub-district in Sinjar, said that the area has been subjected to multiple genocides and atrocities throughout history, noting that the latest catastrophe inflicted to the area by the IS militants left the district with numerous social, economical and political predicaments. In manchen Dingen hat Donald Trump einfach recht. Deshalb ist es Zeit für eine Geste mit Tiefgang.
Deutschland braucht einen Flugzeugträger. Natürlich ist Trump ein Ekel. Aber er findet mit rabiater Hellsicht systemische Schwächen. Er behauptet etwa, die Nato sei unfair.
Stimmt: Amerika macht das meiste, die Europäer liefern viele Wortbeiträge und ein paar Bataillone. Bei Gründung der Nato war Europa arm und schwach, Amerika reich und stark. Das ist längst vorbei, aber die Amerikaner geben dreimal so viel für Verteidigung aus wie Europa. Das Geld fehlt ihnen vor allem beim Bildungssystem und im Sozialstaat.
Einige Europäer haben viel geleistet. Griechenland zum Beispiel. Das Land besitzt nach wie vor eine riesige Marine, etwa hundert Schiffe und über wo 100 000 Soldaten. Brave Griechen!
Frankreich, Italien und auch die Briten sparen. Die einstige Seemacht hat keinen aktiven Flugzeugträger mehr. Ihre „Queen Elizabeth” wird erst gebaut. Die Franzosen besitzen immerhin noch einen, die „Charles de Gaulle”, die im Mittelmeer kreuzt. Meist aber im Trockendock repariert wird.
