MESOP DOCUMENT “WITH FULL SIGNATORIES LIST : PALESTINIENS REMPLIR WESTERN PALESTINE SOLIDARITY

On The Allies We’re Not Proud Of: A Palestinian Response to Troubling Discourse on Syria

Oct 2016 – We, the undersigned Palestinians, write to affirm our commitment to the amplification of Syrian voices as they endure slaughter and displacement at the hands of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime. We are motivated by our deep belief that oppression, in all of its manifestations, should be the primary concern of anyone committed to our collective liberation. Our vision of liberation includes the emancipation of all oppressed peoples, regardless of whether or not their struggles fit neatly into outdated geopolitical frameworks.

We are concerned by some of the discourse that has emerged from progressive circles with regards to the ongoing crisis in Syria. In particular, we are embarrassed by the ways in which some individuals known for their work on Palestine have failed to account for some crucial context in their analysis of Syria.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=79068

MESOP TODAYS ANALYSIS :  The United States on the Verge of Military Intervention against Assad?

INSS Insight No.861, October 13, 2016 – TEL AVIV – Assaf Orion , Udi Dekel

On October 3, 2016, the US State Department announced the suspension of bilateral talks with Moscow seeking a ceasefire in Syria, and cancellation of a Joint Implementation Center for action against the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. Statements by the American administration contain explanations for the failure of US political efforts, and point at the blatant gaps between the current US approach and Russia’s strategic culture and approach to the use of force. The cumulative result is that at all times Russia and the Assad regime have a preferable alternative to an agreed and observed ceasefire – to attack all rebels, by framing the contention: “either Assad or a Salafi jihadist state.”  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=79060

MESOP BACKGROUNDER:  Turks blame US, Iran for encouraging Baghdad against Ankara

13 Oct 2016 – By Semih Idiz – Al Monitor – Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s demand that Turkish troops stationed in the Bashiqa camp near Mosul leave Iraq has riled Turks of all shades, regardless of whether they support President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling Justice and Development Party or not. The blame for Baghdad’s position, however, is being placed on the United States, which is said to be inciting Abadi against Turkey. Iran is also accused of using the Abadi government to keep Turkey away from a Mosul operation. According to some, the aim is to help anti-Turkish terrorist groups and ensure that oil from northern Iraq does not flow into Turkey, while others argue that there is an effort to put up a Shiite belt around Turkey. By Dorian Jones – 2016-10-13  ISTANBUL (VOA) — A dispute continues to deepen between Ankara and Baghdad over the presence of Turkish soldiers near the Iraqi city of Mosul.

Тhe spat erupted after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took the country and the region by surprise last month by calling into question the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, which defined modern Turkey’s borders. He declared Turkey had been blackmailed by foreign powers into giving up vast swaths of territory that were once part of the Ottoman Empire. Although Erdogan focused his criticism on the loss of Aegean islands to Greece, it is Turkey’s southern borders he had in mind, according to visiting Carnegie Europe scholar Sinan Ulgen.   – Read all Read all : http://www.mesop.de/?p=79047 d all http://www.mesop.de/?p=79047

Volltext http://www.mesop.de/?p=79055
