MESOP : AN OPEN LETTER BY AN SYRIAN FRIEND / “A WELL ORGANIZED REFUGEE FLOOD AS A COLLECTIVE WORK”

The flood of refugees, mainly Syrians, into Europe is a collective work, it’s not a mass of individual cases. People are marching towards Europe as it’s a big demonstration leaving border guards and policemen with two choices: shoot them, or trying to stop them.

In both cases, if they don’t die, they will continue the marsh until they reach the safe heavens where there is no barrel bombs or chemicals to suffocate them while they are asleep.

So where did they learn this?

It’s the 4-5 years of demonstrations, secret activities, success and failure in organizing groups in order to move ahead and survive. (what we call the Syrian Revolution)

European governments are left with two choices;

1- Keep taking more refugees in for the coming five or ten years.

2- Stop the war with sustainable solutions, as the Iran deal proved to fuel the oppression and atrocities of Assad in Syria, airstrikes against ISIS are not sufficient, and the scattered contradicted FSA battalions are taking Syria nowhere.

Sad but true, Syria borders Europe (if Turkey is European, and if not Cyprus is only 200km off shore). It’s not a faraway country which anyone, at each second says: it’s complicated so we don’t take any step. www.mesop.de

MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY : EXPANDED SYRIA PRESENCE WOULD CARRY BIG RISKS FOR RUSSIA

By Michael Singh and Jeffrey White – Wall Street Journal – September 8, 2015

Rather than recalling past glories, Russia’s reportedly escalating support for Assad may prove to be a reminder of why they faded in the first place. – In July 1972, Soviet forces were ordered out of Egypt by Anwar Sadat, signaling the end of serious military involvement in the region by Moscow. Now, forty-three years later, Russian troops are returning.According to the New York Times, “Russia has sent a military advance team to Syria and has transported prefabricated housing units for hundreds of people to an airfield near Latakia, according to American intelligence analysts.” Read all: http://www.mesop.de/?p=64427

MESOP EXCLUSIV : First picture ‘proof’ that Russia has troops on the ground all over Syria helping dictator Bashar Al-Assad – and they’ve been there since APRIL

DAILY MAIL ONLINE – BY WILL STEWART – PUBLISHED: 11:08 GMT, 8 September 2015 | UPDATED: 17:26 GMT, 8 September 2015 – These revealing pictures apparently show how Russian troops are already on the ground in Syria as Vladimir Putin allegedly defies the West. The images showing boots on the ground were originally posted on social media accounts of military personnel, but some were then hastily withdrawn once they began being noticed. The shocking pictures will be seen as proof that despite official denials from the Russian president Vladimir Putin, he has deployed increasing numbers of troops to help prop up the regime of Syrian premier Bashar Al-Assad. The pictures will infuriate western leaders who have called for the removal of Assad during the four-year civil war that has devastated the country, forced four million people to flee their homes and led to the terrifying rise of ISIS. Until recently, this facility was guarded by as few as four Russian military personnel it has been claimed, in stark contrast to the numbers now visible. MESOP : FOREIGN POLICY – Russian Troops Are in Syria & We Have the Selfies to Prove It (WESTERN LEFT IS SILENT)

By Reid Standish 9 Sept 2015 – Foreign Policy – Standing against the backdrop of Istanbul’s iconic Bosphorus bridge, a young man in combat fatigues poses for a photo holding up a colorful sign that says “I love you” in Russian. He’s not a tourist, though. The man’s name is Maxim Mazhnikov; he’s a member of Russia’s 810th marine brigade; and he posted the photo to social media to document his journey to war-torn Syria.

What Mazhnikov will do when gets there remains a bit of a mystery, but he is one of many Russian troops from the same unit that have been tracked via social media as they make their way towards Syria. According to a report by Russian investigative journalist Ruslan Leviev, growing numbers of Russian troops over the last two months have been sent to a Russian naval maintenance facility in Tartus, in western Syria. The apparent Russian military build-up there is sending alarm bells ringing in Washington, where the Obama administration worries that Moscow may be stepping up its efforts to help Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad hold on to power. MESOP : RUSSIAN MILITARY INTERVENTION IN SYRIA & PUTIN’S LIMITS

RUSSIA IN SYRIA (PART I): DECLINING MILITARY CAPABILITIES WON’T HOLD MOSCOW BACK

PolicyWatch 2483 – September 8, 2015 – By Anna Borshchevskaya – Although the reported intervention in Syria may spread Russia’s armed forces too thin, the Kremlin seems poised to grow even more aggressive in its near abroad.According to photo evidence republished in a September 8 Daily Mail report, Russian troops have been on the ground in Syria since at least April. Other reports of Moscow’s increased military buildup there have mentioned additional deliveries of advanced weaponry to the Assad regime, a military advance team, and prefabricated housing units sent to an airfield near Latakia. On September 4, President Vladimir Putin described the talk of Russian troops in Syria as “premature,” but he confirmed that Moscow continues to provide serious assistance through training, weaponry, and equipment. Whatever its current extent, Russia’s increased involvement in Syria raises questions about its overall military capabilities. Read all: http://www.mesop.de/?p=64437

SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ)

MESOP INSIGHT : Kata’ib Hezbollah and Iranian Proxies Challenge Iraq’s Proposed National Guard Law

by: Sinan Adnan (ISW) – 9 Sept 2015 — Key Take-away: Iranian proxy groups in Iraq have begun to challenge PM Abadi and ISF control in Baghdad through more aggressive means. Kata’ib Hezbollah among other proxy groups recently denounced new initiative to pass the National Guard law, which resulted in the law’s obstruction. Kata’ib Hezbollah also likely kidnapped 18 Turkish workers in Baghdad on September 2 and clashed with the ISF in Baghdad on September 3. The proxy groups are likely to increase kinetic activities in Baghdad to pressure or coerce PM Abadi to limit further reforms. This push is eroding state authority at a time when the state is preoccupied with ISIS threat and is unlikely to be able to confront threats from the proxies. MESOP – Iraq Situation Report – September 4 – 8, 2015

by: Sinan Adnan, Patrick Martin & Logan Brog (ISW)

Key Takeaway: Iranian-backed Shi’a militias are challenging PM Abadi’s authority through political means and the use of force in the wake of PM Abadi’s recent reforms. The proxy groups’ obstruction of the National Guard Law further limits the government’s ability to subordinate the militias to the control of the state. The National Guard Law is legislation that is critical to empowering Iraqi Sunnis by arming them and organizing them in the fight against ISIS. The Iranian-backed militias have also used violence in Baghdad in ways that challenge the government’s control of the capital. The militias are likely responsible for an emerging trend of kidnappings, including Iraqi government figures and Turkish workers. Gunmen likely from Kata’ib Hezbollah, a prominent Iranian-backed militia, also clashed with ISF from the Baghdad Operations Command. Read all: http://www.mesop.de/?p=64425

MESOP DOCUMENTS : International Conference on the Victims of Ethnic and Religious Violence in the Middle East – Co-Chairs’ Conclusions / The Paris action plan (09.08.2015)

Contents – PART 1 : Supporting affected populations and facilitating durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons, including voluntary return and reintegration. / PART 2 : Fighting impunity and ensuring justice / PART 3 : Preserving the diversity and plurality of the Middle East

The Paris Action Plan, presented during the September 8th, 2015 International Conference on the Victims of Ethnic and Religious Violence in the Middle East, is intended to address the dramatic situation of persons belonging to communities targeted and threatened for ethnic or religious reasons by Daesh and other terrorist organisations. Beyond the solidarity that must benefit all victims of conflict and violence, there is a pressing necessity to protect and preserve those communities and cultures whose very existence is threatened in Iraq and Syria. Faced with this challenge, the Paris Action Plan will serve as a roadmap for the international community’s response. Participants are encouraged to draw on it to carry out concrete measures, ahead of the follow-up conference, announced for 2016 by the Spanish government. Read all: http://www.mesop.de/?p=64433

MESOP : „SEID UMSCHLUNGEN , MILLIONEN“!

(MESOP)
