Video: Second Blast As Syrian Kids Rescued

Video has emerged which shows humanitarian workers rescuing children from a bombed-out building in Syria – only for their operation to be hampered by a second explosion.

The footage, recorded by the Syrian Civil Defence group, shows men carrying young girls out of a dusty room, which appears to have partially collapsed.

As the children are rescued, the men repeatedly say “Allahu Akbar” – God is greatest.

But as the infants are passed from volunteer to volunteer, a zooming noise is heard, as what appears to be another rocket lands in close proximity to the building.

The rescue workers are subsequently showered in further debris and dust.

Four people reportedly sustained minor injuries in the attack, which is reported to have taken place in Douma, a suburban town about 10 miles away from Damascus.

Sky News has not been able to independently verify the pictures and it is not known who was behind the strikes.

The video emerged as Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed its warplanes had carried out at least 18 attacks in Syria since Thursday night, including on an Islamic State command centre.

However, a coalition of countries, including the UK, France and the US, has condemned Moscow for killing civilians and not targeting IS forces in its deadly bombing raids.

Sky’s Diplomatic Editor, Dominic Waghorn, said: “The Syrian Civil Defence unit call themselves The White Helmets – and they are incredibly brave rescuers who work in the liberated areas of Syria.

“They go into buildings that have been the target of some kind of strike, and they have gone in to try and rescue these children and others trapped in the building.

“It’s typical of what civilians are suffering across Syria, and it’s only likely to get worse with Russia’s intervention. Russia is using unprecise munitions against densely populated civilian areas.”
