MESOP : Turkish Tanks Transported To Syrian Border
11-7-2014 – Rojava Report – As fighting between the YPG and the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) intensifies in the Rojava Canton of Kobanê, the Turkish army is transporting tanks to its southern border with Syria, according to a report from DİHA carried by Özgür Gündem.
Although the reason for the armor movements is not immediately clear, many suspect it as a precaution taken against Kurdish movements in the region. The train transporting the tanks was spotted by demonstrators in tent encampment set up along the Turkish-Syrian border in support of Kobanê and caught on a live TV. The encampment lies on a hill in border village of Ziyaret, in the district of Birecik in Urfa province. Many of the demonstrators reacted negatively to the presence of the Turkish army, which they consider to be aiding ISIS in its campaign against Rojava. The YPG has accused Turkish intelligence officers of working with ISIS groups and helping to coordinate their attacks on villages in Rojava. It also cited this as a reason for delaying a counterattack to retake ISIS occupied villages. YPG officers also drew attention to the fact that although Turkey has repeatedly warned ISIS about shelling close to the border, it has yet to offer any response despite the fact that shells have repeatedly struck in Turkish soil.
