MESOP TOP : UK Pledges For More Military Support to Peshmerga – British Government will widen the scales of its support to the KRG: UK Consul General
Basnews | Sardar Sattar – 8 June 2015 – ERBIL – The British government will continue to support the Kurdistan Region in different aspects, the UK Consul General to the Kurdistan Region has reiterated.In his meeting with the Deputy Head of Kurdistan Region’s Department of Foreign Relations, Angus McKee emphasized that his country will widen the scales of its support for the Kurdistan region in economic, military and humanitarian fields.
He also highlighted the role of the British government in providing refugees and IDPs with humanitarian aid, and said that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has earned an international reputation by receiving such a huge number of people fleeing the brutality of the Islamic State (IS) militants. McKee explained that strengthening economic ties between the UK and KRG is a priority for the British government because the Kurdistan region has become a key player in the region fighting terrorism on behalf of the world. In return, Dindar Zebari thanked the UK for establishing such a strong relationship with the KRG and said: “We are in need of international support; especially military support for the Peshmerga and more humanitarian aid for the refugees and IDPs who have fled to Kurdistan hoping to find a peaceful home.”
