MESOP: TOMORROW TRAINING TOGETHER WITH PKK/YPG ? – Turkish Army’s Special Forces to train Peshmerga
Sevil Erkuş ANKARA – Hurriyet – 21 Nov 2014 – The Special Forces of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), known as “maroon berets,” are set to launch a training program for the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq, a Turkish official has told the Hürriyet Daily News.
Turkey has taken steps for the training program in northern Iraq for one month, as part of join efforts in the struggle against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in Iraq, who made serious advances toward Arbil in August. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, meanwhile, pledged “all kinds of support for the security of the Kurdish region [in Iraq].” Speaking at a joint press conference on Nov. 21 with the KRG’s President Masoud Barzani, the Turkish PM said the Kurdish region’s security has vital importance concerning Turkey’s security as well. “Our support to the Peshmerga regarding training will continue,” Davutoğlu said during his visit to Iraq. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkish-armys-special-forces-train-peshmerga-.aspx?pageID=238&nID=74642&NewsCatID=352
