Shiite Militia Leader: We Will Free Sinjar and Kobani / Hadi al-Amiri: Foreign forces should leave the areas
TEHRAN – 10 Jan 2015 – Basnews – An Iraqi Shiite militia leader backed by the Iranian army says that they will free the Kurdish cities of Sinjar in northern Iraq and Kobani in Syria, without the need of help from the United States.
Hadi al-Amiri, head of the powerful Badr Brigades is currently in the Iranian capital Tehran. He said that Iraqi Shiites will protect the country from Islamic State militants, and foreign forces should leave the country as they are not required. Amiri told reporters on Friday that foreign forces including the US and its partners haven’t able to free Iraq and Syria from the extremist group. “Only the Mujahidin [Shiite militia group] can free Mosul, Salahaddin and Anbar, Sinjar and Kobani,” added Amiri. He promised that Shiite militia groups would free all Iraqi areas currently under Islamic State control as soon as possible. Iraqi Shiite militia groups backed by the Iranian army have been fighting IS insurgents in northern Iraq, especially in Diyala province and the towns of Jalawla and Saadia.
