3.6.2014 – The spokesman to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leading council denied any talks over the KDP leader Massoud Barzani’s nomination for Iraq presidency.Speaking with Kurdpress days ago, the KDP spokesman in Sulaymaniya Abdulwahab Ali denied any negotiations over Barzani’s presidency but reiterated that the Kurds are serious to keep the post for themselves and take it as their very right.
He further added there is not such a will in the KDP to nominate Barzani for the post and stressed no talks have been done in the party over the issue and if there has been he is unaware of the issue. Barzani said in a statement a while ago that Iraq presidency is for the Kurds in the country but stressed whoever is nominated for the post should receive the Kurdish local parliament’s approval.Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Jalal Talabani is Iraq’s official president but he has been away from his post since December 2012 when he suffered a severe heart stroke and has been hospitalized in Germany since the time.
Despite coming out three in the region’s parliament elections last year, PUK reiterates that the post is for the party and it is the PUK that will nominate a candidate for the post. The KDP Ali further told Kurdpress that the Kurds in the north of Iraq have no redline for the state’s next PM and who win run the premiership provided that the next PM respects the constitution and stands with promises. Ali said it is not important whether the next PM will be current Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki or any other official what is important is the next PM should not follow despotic policies and marginalize lines and groups.
