MESOP : SLOW PROGRESS IN KOBANE / BUT PESHMERGA DID A GREAT JOB THERE
Kobane: sporadic clashes continue amid Kurdish advance
December 21, 2014 – ARA News – Suruc, Turkey – Subsequent to clashes with militants of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS), the defending forces of Kobane regained control of the Yarmouk School south of the city (which was taken as a stronghold by the IS), Kurdish military sources reported on Saturday. Shoresh Dijla, leading member of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Kobane, stated to ARA News that the battles reached Saturday the Botan Sharqi neighborhood in the war-torn city.
During the last two days, at least 35 IS terrorists have been killed during clashes in Kobane, according to Dijla. “On Saturday, our forces were able to regain control of the Yarmouk School near the village of Termik, south of the city. Thus, IS militants lost one of the most important centers in Kobane,” the YPG fighter told ARA News on the phone. In the meantime, the Peshmerga forces, which were backing the YPG figters, repelled an IS-led car bomb attack southwest of the city before reaching the city center. The bombed car caused some damage to the property of displaced citizens, but couldn’t reach its target as the Peshmerga soldiers stopped its advance with an artillery shell,” a military source said. Noteworthy, the IS extremists in Kobane received new military reinforcements yesterday, including tanks and heavy weapons, the same source said. Reporting by: Jan Ali – Source: ARA News
