Syria Daily: Assad Regime Keeps Silent About Advances by Islamic State & Insurgents
By Scott Lucas August 9, 2014 07:49 Updated – LATEST: Video — Friday’s Demonstration in Insurgent-Held Salaheddin Section of Aleppo
Days after the loss of a major military bases and pressure on its most important airports, the Assad regime is still keeping quiet. This week the jihadist Islamic State quickly overran the Regiment 93 base near Raqqa in northern Syria, following up its capture of the Regiment 121 base and leaving the regime with only one significant position — the Taqba airbase — in Raqqa Province.
Insurgents have moved within a few kilometers of Hama Military Airport, firing rockets into the complex, and Hama city in central Syria. Near the capital, they have moved towards Damascus International Airport, hoping to cut highways and put pressure on operations such as the transport of foreign fighters and Iranian weapons and supplies.
However, State media have made no reference to the fall of Brigade 93, or indeed any conflict in Raqqa.. State news agency SANA’s depiction of the fighting near Damascus is limited this morning is limited to “army units targeted terrorists in Drousha area, Nastle and al-Fusol al-Araba’a (Four Seasons) Streets and medicine factory in Damascus countryside, killing and wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their criminal tools”.
There is no repetition in SANA today of last week’s proclamations by military leaders, for Army Day, that “victory is near”.

OBAMA’S NUTSHELL SUMMARY OF HIS FOREIGN POLICY PHILOSOPHY ON NY TIMES INTERVIEW REVEALS SO MUCH
“No Victory,” No Vanguished,” is his goal in the Middle East. In other words, stalemate so that genocide, sectarianism and radicalization can contnue with ISIS making out like crazy.
It’s tantamount to arguing, “Prolong all these conflicts forever.” It’s also a declaration of neutrality even where one side is genocidal. If this were early World War II and Obama was in FDR’s shoes, he’d look at France and England vs. Hitler’s Reich and recite “No Victory, No Vanquished.”
That slogan also explains his strongly pro-Iran position in the Middle East and why he tolerated tons of help from Putin, Iran and Hezbollah to Assad’s War on Sunnis. Iran is on the way to losing its whole empire–the project that created all of the problems in the first place yet that’s supposedly a bad thing. “No victor, no vanquished” sounds a lot like “Iran must not be allowed to lose its new empire in the Middle East.”
For myself, I think that would be a great thing for all parties (The USA, Sunnis and SHias, etc.) except Iran’s ruling mullocracy which would really be in hot water. Yet, according to the strategically brilliant US president whose philosophy also enable so much, that would be a disaster not a terrific development. He’d do anything to save Iran from troubles of his own making.

TABQA AIRBASE COULD BE GOING DOWN LIKE GREASED LIGHTING
“The Islamic State has surrounded Tabqa airbase, now storming from all sides, also MASSIVE artillery fire going on —Abdallah, who reports ISIS is already inside. Assad’s forces remain superb at attacking unarmed civilians but lousy against ISIS or the rebels unless supported by non-Syrians.
As in the past, ISIS will probably grab a ton of weapons and behead most defenders. Given the substantial forces ISIS has so close to Aleppo in may move on to threaten eastern Aleppo. Don’t be surprised if thousands of regime troops and civilians flee to rebel lines.
Few people feel sympathy for an army that resembles Hitler’s Totenkampf (death squads) and a support base that recalls Germans waving swastika flags at Hitler’s motorcade. Even now air bases like Tabqa continue to bomb civilians while army bases continue to shell civilians. Regime snipers focus on civilians as usual. Regime pilots continue to avoid bombing ISIS except when pressured by Iran in which case then then deliberately miss and hit civilians. Regime security services have tortured more than 10,000 Sunnis to death and trying for 15,000. Regime guards and militias continue to gang rape and impregnate female prisoners. ISIS has lots of catching up to do to beat the regime’s 100-1 edge in atrocities.
Whenever ISIS is attacking innocents we all root for the innocents. However, when ISIS fights the Genocide Regime, its loyalists or its Iran-sponsored foreign miliatis, it’s like Pol Pot fighting Pol Pot. Since the regime has a huge lead in atrocities, most folks root for the regime to get nailed.

From Tazimorocco: “some weeks ago SAA sharing a front with ISIS was the safest Job like Wehrmacht in Paris 1942 instead of Eastern Front due 2 pact. Assad Intelligence Services used #ISIS for their interests against Rebels. Families of 2000 #SAA men KIA in 3 weeks know that.
RIVAL SHIA MILITIAS FIGHTING EACH OTHER IN BAGHDAD?
“Reports of intense clashes between Sadr militia and Maliki militia in Sadr city. Sources: Rami Al Lolah, Rene Arnaud. It’s bad enough that Baghdad Is almost surrounded by ISIS. Inside Bad Guys are fighting Bad Guys. Obama’s god, Khamenei, must be worried sick.
