The leader of Syria pro-Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) said the attitudes of European states have changed towards the party and the U.S. and Britain have directly negotiate with the PYD.

Addressing a conference in European parliament in Brussels, Salih Muslim said the attitudes of the European states have changed towards the PYD after attacks on Syria Kurdish regions by the militants of the Islamic State (IS). According to NRT, Muslim said the European do not consider the PYD a terrorist organization any longer and “all are well aware that the party defends European values.” He did not mention the details of the meetings with U.S. and Britain officials but added the party is expected to hold meetings with officials from other states to win more support for the PYD against the IS radicals. The PYD leader also asked for more military support to the party to defend Syrian Kurdish regions, particularly the besieged town of Kobani.
