MESOP REPORT : PKK Kurds starts autonomy in Turkey

Kako Ibrahim – BasNews, Turkey – 15.4.2014 – Following a request by co-mayor of Diyarbakir Gultan Kisanak to redirect the oil revenue of oil extracted from Diyarbakir region to the Kurdish city, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) MP Demir Çelik stated that according to the democratic autonomy, they are asking for a portion of revenue from all energy resources.

In an interview with Turkish Millet Newspaper, Çelik pointed out that besides oil, they have asked for 20% of all other energy resources as well from the Turkish Government.

“Both Shirnakh and Colemerg (Kurdish) cities have been appointed as the starting points of the implementation of the democratic autonomy project. We have started this project in these two cities with education, healthcare, and agriculture,” said Çelik. He noted that Turkey will no longer be ruled by the central government alone and they support a democratic and mutual ruling. Çelik mentioned the Kurdistan Region as an example of democratic autonomy that has its own share in oil revenue. “In our region, a lot of minerals are extracted as well as electricity production station, yet our area is the poorest place in Turkey and this is not fair. It is necessary to provide 20% of the resources revenue to the area,” said Çelik. He pointed out: “in the next months, we will hold a conference about democratic autonomy that the BDP mayors and the council of mayors will participate in, in order to improve the project”.
