April 24, 2015 – Geneva – The United Nations envoy on refugee issues, Angelina Jolie, is expected to brief the U.N. Security Council on the Syrian refugee crisis on Friday. According to reports, more than four million civilians have escaped war-torn Syria over the past four years. Jolie is briefing the U.N. special envoy to Syria and official refugee chiefs in a meeting of the Security Council. In the past months, Jolie has been visiting Syrian refugee camps in neighboring countries and has held meetings with refugee families and aid workers. Turkey, Iraqi Kurdistan, Jordan and Lebanon are reportedly encountering difficulties while coping with the mounting numbers of Syrian refugees.
