MESOP REPORT: IRANIAN KURDS CALL PRO KURDISH INDEPENDENCE – 300 Iranian Kurdish Activists Mount Campaign in Support of Kurdistan’s Independence

Basnews English – 27/07/2017 – 15:19 – ERBIL — Hundreds of Iranian Kurdish activists across the globe have joined a massive campaign to lend their support to an imminent independence referendum in the Kurdistan Region.

According to a press release signed by more than 300 Iranian Kurdish activists, the campaign intends to promote the Yes-vote in order to encounter the efforts aiming at the failure of the referendum. The world-wide campaign specifically accuses the Islamic Republic of Iran of plotting against Kurdistan’s independence referendum, described as “a historic opportunity” for Kurds.Even though the Iranian Kurdish activists are not legally eligible to vote on Kurdistan’s independence, they urge the Kurdish political parties to take the responsibility, remain united and lead the process to a successful end.

“Shirking their national responsibilities under any pretext could greatly damage the political factions themselves and the [future] of our people,” reads the statement. They also call on the people to vote “Yes” in the independence referendum, emphasising that every vote will guaranty a better future for Kurds and thwarts enemies’ plots against the nation.

Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani has announced 25th September as the independence referendum day when people will have the chance to vote whether they want to stay within Iraq or have an independent state of their own. www.mesop.de
