MESOP : PYD GIVES ROOM FOR ASSAD FORCES
Kurdish forces withdraw from locations in Syria’s Hasakah
ARA News – 6.6.62014 – Hasakah, Syria ــ The Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) and the Assayish (military and security arm of the Democratic Union Party PYD) withdrew on Tuesday midnight from their headquarter of the Fire Station in the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria. The YPG and Assayish were replaced by pro-Assad militants of the National Defence in the Station after their withdrawal.
Local sources told ARA News that the “Syrian official flag” was raised on the top of the building (Fire Station), as well as the flag of the Baath Party and pictures of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad under the protection of National Army militants. The flag of the YPG forces was apparently removed after the Kurdish forces’ withdrawal.
The YPG and Assayish forces also withdrew from the Water Foundation building in central Hasakah after months of control. The leadership of the Kurdish forces didn’t issue any statements about the reason behind their withdrawal. Recently, the city of Hasakah saw fierce clashes between the Kurdish forces of the YPG and militants of the National Defence at the outskirts of Salihiya, Aziziya and al-Mufti Kurdish neighbourhoods in the city. The pro-Assad National Defence militia also arrested dozens of Kurdish civilians in central Hasakah, end of last May.
After constant insistence to remain in control over its headquarters in Hasakah city, the YPG and Assayish forces withdrew calmly on Tuesday midnight. Reporting by: Sipan al-Kurdi Source: ARA News
