MESOP : Protest in Iraqi Kurdistan: “Crises will not be solved by corrupt officials”

Knnc.net – 30.3.2014 – SLÊMANÎ, Kurdistan region ‘Iraq’,— Reacting to the delay of the formation of the eighth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), a campaign was announced on Saturday, called ‘Pressure Campaign to Solve Crises’ in Slêmanî [Sulaimaniyah].

Nzar Mohemmad, social activist and member of the campaign told Sbeiy that two organizers of the campaign, Huner Karim and Daban Abdullah, were arrested by Slemani Security Forces (Asayish), pointing out that they went to have their lunch near Bakhi Gshti Public Park in downtown on Salim Street. The two organizers were released shortly afterwards. “We will carry on despite pressure and comments are free. People can write whatever crosses their minds about the current crises,” Mohemmad added. Mohemmad said: instead of arresting people, the government should come and read people‌’s comments and suggestions.

Some examples of the comments that were written by ordinary citizens are as follows:

-“Natural resources are not only yours”

-“Where is the income from oil”, “Why don’t you form the cabinet? People are waiting for you”

– “Why are not employees’ salaries paid on time”

– “Crises will not be solved by corrupt officials”

– “Home=Dark rooms”

– “Where are the results of the elections, where are your promises?”

– “You won the revolution but lost people”

The ‘Pressure Campaign’ was announced in front of Bakhi Gshti in Slemani, in its famous street near Palace Hotel.
