Dr. Kamal Fuad one of the founders of PUK passes away in Germany

BERLIN,— A prominent Kurdish intellectual, politician and one of the founders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party, Dr. Kamal Fuad passed away in one of Berlin hospitals in Germany, at the age of 82.

Some Websites of the party published news , followed up by “Shafaq News”, that “ the death news is true as a member of the Foundation Board and a member of the political bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Kamal Fuad died last night. Kamal Abdul Karim Fouad, was born in Slêmanî, (Sulaimaniyah) in 1932, he finished his studies and moved in the early fifties of the last century to Germany to complete his undergraduate studies in the Orientalism Department in Humboldt University and earned a doctorate in philosophy from the same university in 1970.

Fuad was one of the few Kurdish students who founded Kurds Students Association in Germany in 1956, he returned to Kurdistan after the statement of 11 March 1970 and the work in the Kurdish language department at the University of Slêmanî. He founded with former President, Jalal Talabani the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party mid-seventies of the last century, only to return in 1976 to Berlin again to exercise as well as his political career , researchers in the field of Oriental manuscripts at the University of Berlin and contributed to several research on eastern and Kurdish Languages. Again returned to Kurdistan after 1991 uprising and was elected in the first session of Kurdistan Parliament as head of the Patriotic Union bloc in the same session, as well as being a member of the Union’s political bureau he became Speaker of Kurdistan Parliament for a brief period after uniting the administrations of the region in 2002.

He fought the disease during the past three years during his stay with his daughter in Germany until he passed away on the night of 15/16 of current November.
