Masum to French charge d’affaires: Signs of hope to overcome government formation crisis

    Thursday, 31 July 2014 – – / Iraqi President Fuad Masum confirmed during a meeting with the French charge d’affaires that there are signs of hope for the formation of the Iraqi government.

A statement from the Presidency of the Republic, reported for “Shafaq News”, that “the President of the Republic , Fuad Masum received in his office in Baghdad France’s charge d’affaires  to Iraq , Christoph Katsaan,” adding that “the charge d’affaires, delivered a letter to President Masum from French President , Francois Hollande and also reviewed relations between Iraq and France and their importance. “Masum pointed to “the need to strengthen , consolidate and expand cooperation between the two countries, and expressed Iraq’s desire to deepen bilateral relations for the benefit of the two peoples.”

The statement added, ” the current political situation in Iraq and the conditions of formation of the government have been discussed in accordance with the constitutional timings and also discussed the problems that hinder the political process and the importance of a return to the Constitution to solve them.”

Masum confirmed that “the formation of a government of national partnership will contribute to solve the outstanding problems and the adoption of the basic laws, the stability of the security situation and the way to address the overall outstanding issues among the involved parties in the political process, as there are signs of hope in the coming days to overcome the crisis of forming the government.”The Shiite religious Marjiyaa in Iraq, has called on Friday the country’s leaders not to cling to positions to resolve the formation of the government, in a reference to remove of Prime Minister , Nuri al-Maliki from office.  Forming the suspended Iraqi government is still stopped by the Shiite National Alliance naming a candidate for the position after the insistence of   State of law coalition on its only candidate for the position who is al-Maliki.
