Yezidi Officials and US Delegation Discuss PKK’s Withdrawal from Sinjar – The US is trying to find a mechanism for PKK’s withdrawal from Sinjar, Naif Saido says

13 Dec 2016 – SINJAR — A US delegation visited Sinuni sub-district in the district of Sinjar and met with its officials to discuss the withdrawal of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from the area.Naif Saido, the mayor of Sinuni, revealed to BasNews on Tuesday that a US delegation arrived in the area and met with the officials of the district. He stated that they have discussed the presence of the PKK forces in the area, noting that the US is trying to find a mechanism for their withdrawal.

The official said that the IDPs cannot return to the district as long as the PKK forces stay in the area. The mayor of Sinuni sub-district in Sinjar previously said that PKK was expanding and consolidating its scope of power in the district with support from Baghdad and the Shi’ite militia Hashd al-Shaabi.”Armed conflicts will possibly break out between the Sinjar people and the illegitimate forces in the district if Baghdad continues its policy of supporting those forces,” said the official, arguing that Yezidis can no longer remain silent about PKK’s acts of taking the Yezidi girls to Mount Qandil for military activities. Moreover, the people of Sinjar won’t accept their land to be occupied by the PKK forces preventing the IDPs from returning to their homes, he said. The official explained that many IDPs are wishing to return to their areas, however they are unwilling to do so fearing that those illegal forces will recruit their children. www.mesop.de
