Hashd Al-Shaabi Preparing for Imminent Attack on Kurdistan: Official

Basnews English  – 4 Nov  2017 – ERBIL — Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi are preparing for an assault against the Peshmerga forces and the international community has been informed about the plan, according to a Peshmerga official.

Halgurd Hikmat, Director of Media, Culture and National Awareness at the Peshmerga Ministry told BasNews on Saturday “There is a mobilization of forces along the line of contact between Peshmerga and Hashd al-Shaabi,” adding “Hashd al-Shaabi has been continuously deploying forces to the frontline.”The activities of Hashd al-Shaabi show their intention of attacking the Peshmerga forces, Hikmat said.

He argued that “They are obviously attempting to impose their will on Kurdistan by force.”The Peshmerga official stressed that Peshmerga is capable of thwarting any attack against Kurdistan Region. Peshmerga has informed the international community and the US-led Coalition that Baghdad is using military force against Kurdistan under the pretext of implementing the constitution, Hikamt said, adding that the Hashd al-Shaabi militias are planning to attack Kurdistan, using the weapons provided by the Coalition to Iraq for the battle against the Islamic State.

There is evidence on the involvement of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Lebanese Hezbollah in the previous attacks against Kurdistan Region, he added. www.mesop.de
