New constitution will decide on Kurdish demands for federalism: Bashar al-Assad
23 Aprl 2017 – The President of Syria Bashar al-Assad has stated that most Kurds in Syria do not believe in federalism but in the case of any such demand they should wait for the new constitution to decide on the case.
According to Sputnik news agency Assad stated that autonomy can be announced during war but it needs a reason in peace. Noting that the Syrian army is unable to control Kurdish regions in the north, Assad stated that any autonomy, confederalism or whatever should be decided within the constitution as Syria is a country of separate cultures, diverse regions and ethnics and no one can discuss the issue alone and an agreement in needed in this regard. He, however, reiterated that most Kurds in Syria has never believed in autonomy and federalism.
