MESOP NEWS : KRG tells PYD: Don’t play games with the Region’s security

18.04.2014 – Hemin Salih – BasNews, Erbil – The security committee of the Iraqi Kurdish city of Dohuk has warned the Democratic Union Party (PYD) that they will not allow gaps to appear in the security of the Kurdistan Region.

In a public statement, the security committee of Dohuk, the third largest city in Iraqi Kurdistan, located near the border with Syrian Kurdistan, said, “We won’t allow any voids to appear that would threaten the security of the Kurdistan Region.” The committee was referring to the ditch that has been dug along the border with Syrian Kurdistan. The committee also said that they have the responsibility to protect and safeguard the citizens of the Region and to prevent any threats to stability. The statement went on: “In recent days the PYD has used violence to cause division and tension among the people. We are warning them not to play games with the Region’s security. They are now responsible for anything that happens to the lives of the Region’s people.” Last week the KRG dug a 17-km-long ditch along the Syrian border, saying they want to protect the Region from terrorists slipping in. However, the PYD has interpreted the ditch as a sign that the KRG is abandoning the Syrian Kurds.
